A battle against the epidemic has destined the 2020 Spring Festival to be extraordinary.
Some people have lost their moral integrity and opened Pandora's box in order to satisfy 's curiosity and their appetite; some people have misbehaved and insisted on partying and playing without protection, and were eventually captured by the virus ; some people have an unbalanced mentality and accuse Wuhan people and avoid them. When the Black Death broke out in the Middle Ages, people used the same attitude towards Jews as scapegoats; some people lost control of their emotions and beat up medical staff...
As a clinical psychology worker, I want to say: Most harm comes from ignorance, while compassion comes from understanding.
1. Because you understand the unhealthy nature of oral fixation, you can be compassionate to animals.
The oral stage (oral stage) is also called the oral stage or oral stage . It was proposed by the Austrian psychologist Sigmund Freud (1856-1939) and belongs to the first stage of the (broad) psychosexual development theory (before about 1 year old). In the oral stage, the instinct originates from the oral cavity, the object is food, and the purpose is bonding. Individual excitement is invested in the oral cavity. Babies obtain physical and mental satisfaction through oral activities such as sucking, chewing, and biting.
Psychoanalytic research has found that if the baby's development during the oral period does not go smoothly, and its material and spiritual needs are severely lacking or over-satisfied, then the psychological energy with a sense of excessive lack or over-dependence will be fixed/fixed during this period. Individuals will always subconsciously maintain the mentality of a child under 1 year old, and will regard "eating" as the most important thing in life, and therefore subconsciously regard many things in life as "eating" in a broad and symbolic sense, such as greed for money, greed for power, greed for sex, greed for things, etc., thus affecting their psychological development, personality characteristics, behavior patterns and even life scripts. This psychological phenomenon is called "oral fixation" or "oral fixation".
Consolidation is not only a phenomenon of mental energy being retained later in life, but it can also be a way of satisfying physical and mental needs. Individuals with oral fixation may manifest themselves as "gluttonous" behaviors, and may develop oral sadism (such as biting, biting, or eating things they shouldn't eat), oral dependence (such as smoking, drinking), oral addiction (such as cigarette addiction, alcohol addiction, drug addiction) and other bad behaviors or characters as adults. They may also manifest themselves as symbolic "crying", "screaming", "biting" and "eating". For example, complaining endlessly when something happens is symbolic "crying"; being unreasonable in public and shouting "I want to find your leader" at every turn is symbolic "crying"; speaking harshly, liking to criticize and ridicule, and being good at bickering and cursing is symbolic "biting"; all kinds of "greed" is symbolic "eating". Just from the perspective of psychological analysis, there are many people among us who are stuck in the oral sexual phase.
Eating is of course right, and it is the way to survive. However, we must remember: we are human beings! We live not only to eat, but also not to eat everything, especially animals. We must live with dignity, a bottom line, and boundaries, and have more higher and more beautiful pursuits.
2. Because I understand the unhealthy nature of victim-blaming mentality, I can be compassionate to the “initiator”.
People often attribute the outcome of things to the "fairness" of a higher moral level. In other words, what a person does will bring him/her a just result; if you do good deeds, you will be rewarded with good things, and if you do bad things, you will be rewarded with bad consequences; if you do not repay it, the time has not yet come. This is the human “Just-world Hypothesis/Just-world Fallacy”.
Melvin Lerner, a social psychologist who first studied this phenomenon, pointed out that normal people need to maintain a good sense of self in life, but normal people often encounter various misfortunes from people around them, people in newspapers, and all kinds of people. This happens so often that, although people don't panic, they can't help but interpret it as saying they must have done something wrong. For example, "The reason why that girl was raped was because she was too beautiful, wore too revealing clothes, and wandered around outside at night..." Therefore, behaviors or phenomena that blame the victim often occur.
This epidemic is no exception. When people denounce and conduct human searches for the “initiators” of bat-eating, they may have forgotten that they are also victims in the face of the virus. True, they are victims of ignorance. I believe that if they understand the relevant knowledge, if they know that once the disease occurs, it will affect the people closest to them, society, and even the world, they will definitely be different; unless they are patients with antisocial personality disorder and have no sense of morality and guilt common to human beings. But current data shows that they are not.
Victim blame psychology is a manifestation of cognitive dissonance. It is a cognitive bias and a psychological trap constructed by human beings. This kind of thinking or attribution method may be biased, irrational, inhumane, or even unjust, but it still exists today because it can play a psychological role in comforting and provide part of the explanation. However, we need to clarify one point from a scientific and rational perspective: the tendency to blame the victim is not necessarily healthy. As far as "fighting the epidemic" itself is concerned, our focus and the focus of work in various fields should be "solving problems."
3. Because we understand that the fear of death is a common fear among human beings, we can be compassionate towards life.
Since the beginning of mankind in the universe, 85 billion people have died on this planet. So far, the matter is irreversible. Therefore, the fear of death has become a common deep fear for all mankind. This is why, when Justinian offered wads of gold to the gravediggers to tempt them to work harder, the workers remained unmoved. This is why, in the late Eastern Han Dynasty, the number of deaths caused by typhoid fever reached such a tragic level that it "clogged the roads". More than 100 people died of the disease in Zhang Zhongjing's family alone. "Typhoid fever ranked seventh out of ten", so he was angry and wrote the medical classic "Treatise on Febrile Diseases" to try to hang a pot to help the world.
Regarding the fear of death, a healthier attitude is to respect nature, accept the natural law of the end of life, cherish every moment and every life, but not be passive and casual, live casually, let alone try to break through this fear and act recklessly.
As early as the 1940s, the renowned clinical psychologist Viktor Emil Frankl M.D. (1905-1997), leader of the existential-analysis theory, proposed that the main motivation of human beings is to understand the purpose and meaning of existence and to reveal the secrets of their own existence. He called this motivation "the will to find meaning." Animals know how to seek happiness and conquest, but they do not understand the meaning of survival; while human nature is to seek meaning.
To this end, he provided several important ways to obtain the meaning of life: First, create and work, continuously develop potential, and realize the value of life; second, experience the value of meaning, especially through love. The third is the attitude towards inevitable suffering. Even in the face of irresistible situations or suffering, you can still choose your own attitude and stance, and change your perspective on things by realizing attitudinal value, thereby gaining new awareness.
4. Because we understand that the best patriotic action is to transform ourselves, we can embody compassion for the country and society.
The word "nation" is anything but abstract. A nation is composed of individuals and generations. The character of each of us is a part of the national character, and the psychological quality of each of us is also a component of the national psychological quality. People who identify with the Chinese nation become patriotic.
For all patriots and individuals who are interested in improving China’s national character, the most sincere, direct, and practical way is to be willing to pursue spiritual growth—continuously and deeply explore oneself, be aware of oneself, learn to regulate one’s unhealthy psychology, learn to rebuild one’s own psychological bottom line and boundaries, learn to effectively correct one’s bad behaviors, and strive to improve one’s personality.
I believe that when there are fewer and fewer people who are fixated on their oral desires, when more and more people revere nature and life, and when more and more people focus on solving problems when encountering uncomfortable situations, our nation will become better and better.
Cherish this life and cultivate compassion.
God rewards mercy, we should know it ourselves.
You should be self-aware when dealing with the world, and you must be self-possessed as a human being.
