Internet trolls are also called "keyboard warriors"
Nowadays, there are many "keyboard warriors" and "network trolls" appearing on the Internet, and they make inflammatory, irrelevant or offensive comments online.
Professional researchers found that those who share these contents generally have dark triad personality traits (narcissism, Machiavelliism, psychosis) and gloating. People with the "Dark Triple Personality" are more likely to "provocative" behavior if they gain pleasure from watching others passively suffer. They provoke at the expense of harming others' interests.
Machiavellianism is a personality trait that represents cunning, manipulation of others, and the driving force for power using all necessary means.
The sign of mental illness is socially irresponsible behavior and the ignorance of or infringement of the rights of others. They care more about improving their online experience than creating a positive online experience for people because people cannot get the same fun from this provocative discussion.
What should I do if I encounter trolls online?
1. Someone will definitely tell you the "correct" way to deal with it: don't pay attention to them. Ignore what they spray, don't interact, and don't give them the sense of presence they want. The
principle sounds so meaningful and reasonable that it often makes us misunderstand and ignore some important facts: the harm caused by trolls is real; the existence of Internet violence depends on the attitude of each of us towards it; and those who are whispered need more support.
2. We cannot hope to let us explain the truth to the trolls ourselves, but we must think from the other side that we cannot control: why the other party refuses to speak well, why can they always benefit from slandering people? Is the cost of slandering people too low, and the system itself does not encourage slandering people to speak well.
Although it is very difficult to solve the problem of Internet trolls, at least one thing should be determined: trolls are in power because the whole game rules are set for them, and they are destined to win when they start squirting. They have the power to hurt people, from the beginning to the end. And there may be many strategies we respond to - anger, humor, love, tolerance, banning, or creating constructive conversations. But ultimately, we must care about Internet violence, whether our own actions provide convenience for Internet violence, or even encourage them.
