Going to school at the age of seven is now a red line for entering the first grade of primary school. With the household registration book, it cannot be ambiguous at all. However, Mr. Zhao entered school at the age of five, two years earlier than today's children. If this is luck, then this luck is due to that special era, his old father's profession and his old house that is both a clinic and a home.
The clinic his father opened at home is located on the street one or two hundred meters away from Xiaoying Primary School. Teachers from Xiaoying Primary School all pass by his door when going to and from school. Maybe he was very popular when he was a child, and the teachers liked to tease him regardless of anything. Of course they became very familiar with him over time. When the teacher went to school, he said to him half-jokingly: "Come to school with me?" The kid took the joke as the truth, and he just followed the teacher like that. In the 1950s and 1960s, the school did not have as strict a student status system as it does now. With just a joke, he sat in the first grade class openly.
When the second year of school started, the first-grade students had not yet registered, so he followed the old students from the original class and sat in the second-grade classroom. His brother was three years older than him, and had been delayed twice in the first grade. At this time, he actually entered the second grade at the same time as him. I couldn't help but sigh that it is indeed a rare and strange thing for brothers who are several years apart in age to be in the same grade.
He was in the fifth grade of elementary school when the unprecedented hurricane unfolded in 1966. School is closed. These primary school students are not enough to be "guards" and can only be "little soldiers". Of course, little soldiers also have red armbands, but the middle is not "guard" but "little". Since they are indeed "little", they can only follow those "guards" and wave the flag. Xiaoying Primary School at that time The dean’s name is Wang Ming. They have been following the rebel teachers on campus all day long, standing in line with their fists raised and shouting: “Down with Wang Ming, down with Wang Ming.” Wang Ming was really “pulled down” by their shouts that day at the dinner where I welcomed him. Mr. Chen Jun, the editor of "Qingjiangpu Renjia", was chatting. Mr. Chen Jun asked him if he knew Wang Ming, the teaching director of Xiaoying Primary School. He smiled and said that Wang Ming was "pulled down" by us at that time. After
had been wandering around in society for two years, at the end of 1967, Xiaoying Primary School sent their primary school diplomas home. As all three seniors left the school in the spring of 1969, in order to fill the vacancies in the school, the middle school finally admitted new students. The first middle school in Huaiyin City to start enrolling students is Huaiyin Middle School , Qingjiang Middle School and Huaihai Middle School (the name of Wangying Middle School reformed during the Cultural Revolution is now Huaizhou Middle School) in October 1968. Wangying At that time, the administrative division belonged to Qingjiang City.
It should be said that the enrollment of middle schools in Huaiyin urban area is more than two months earlier than that in rural Huaiyin County. At that time, as the third generation, we were still in school, and we helped Huaiyin County Yugou Middle School before the end of 1968. He left the school in January 1969 after recruiting freshmen from the first grade of junior high school.
The situation is the same as when we went to the countryside to recruit students. At that time, recruiting new students required mobilization from door to door. After several years of "struggle, criticism, and reform," the common people have come to regard whether they study or not as a matter of indifference. No, when Liang Chengze, a teacher at Huaihai (Wangying) Middle School, went to his home to mobilize him to go to school in October 1968, his grandfather flatly refused: "If you don't go, going to school means devolution, and not going to school means devolution!" ". The teacher's earnest persuasion mobilized his grandfather, saying that you can learn knowledge in school, but his grandfather was unmoved: "If you don't go to school, go to school and learn Chairman Mao's quotations. If you don't go to school, you can also learn Chairman Mao's quotations." The negative consequences of many years of "theory that reading is useless" were accurately expressed in his grandfather's straightforward language. This was indeed a common thing at that time.However, my grandfather's angry words still need to be learned. In addition, the neighborhood committee later requested a meeting, and my grandfather became less insistent.
Mr. Zhao entered the first grade of junior high school in November 1968, several months earlier than other schools in the area. At that time, their schooling lasted for two years. There were no textbooks when they entered school, so they just studied the old man's little red book. It was probably not until the second grade of junior high school that there were temporarily compiled "Basic Industrial Knowledge" and "Basic Agricultural Knowledge".
"When classes were resumed and the revolution took place, the old textbooks were abolished and we had to compile our own textbooks, such as "Basic Knowledge of Industry", "Basic Knowledge of Agriculture", "Three Machines and One Pump", Industrial Machinery, etc., as well as corresponding quotations from Chairman Mao." This is the memory of Fan Qingdong, my teacher at Yugou Middle School who later became the principal of Qingjiang Middle School.
"During the Cultural Revolution, all the original teaching materials were abandoned. Teachers in Yuzhong were organized to rewrite the teaching materials, requiring Mao Zedong Thought to be used to guide the teaching materials. The Chinese language was mainly composed of Chairman Mao's works, Chairman Mao's poems, and articles from two newspapers and one magazine, combining mathematics, physics and chemistry with engineering. Agriculture needs to be compiled. In addition, we also compiled a book called "Basic Knowledge of Agriculture" and "Basic Knowledge of Industry". We invited poor and lower-middle peasants and workers to provide suggestions and carefully revised the new textbooks. "This is the memory of Teacher You Zhixin, a teacher at Yugou Middle School.
The current memories of my two teachers are consistent with Mr. Zhao’s dictation.
Mr. Zhao said that they spent most of the semester in factories and rural areas. To learn hydropower, go to the hydropower station at the south gate of the old Huai'an . To learn agriculture, go to Xiajiahu Farm. To learn engineering, go to Qingjiang Fertilizer Factory. To learn mechanics, go to No. 2 Agricultural Machinery in Huaiyin Xiaoying as a sand foundry.
However, whether it was studying work or studying agriculture, he did not take it lightly, but took it seriously. When working in agriculture, they don’t care about their strength, but when they study in the factory, they like to use their brains. Due to his outstanding performance among the farmers in Xiajiahu Summer Harvest, he was rated as a "model" by his head teacher Cheng Wenyuan and was issued a commendation certificate with mimeographed . This certificate is still kept in his safe to this day. That year, he was 13 years old. When a student was a student, the most important thing for anyone was the teacher’s affirmation. That affirmation undoubtedly inspired him greatly. Today, many years later, Mr. Zhao admitted that Teacher Cheng Wenyuan’s encouragement had a profound impact on his life.
In addition to studying agriculture and engineering outside school, of course, I also have to complete the teaching tasks of textbooks in school. If you want to take classes, you need a teacher. At that time, many teachers were labeled as "cow ghosts and snake gods". There were not enough teachers. What should we do? , in desperation, in order to make up for the shortage of teachers, in addition to teachers with no problems, teachers who have been convicted of different "crime" and less serious can also take over the class. When these "problem teachers" are in class, students don't call them teachers, but call them by their first names.
There is a teacher named Zhu Jingtian, who is from Shanghai. He once served as a major translator for the US Army Advisory Group. Before the Cultural Revolution, when he saw the portrait of a great man on the cover of "People's Pictorial", he said that his face looked like a child. Because of this sentence, he was convicted and labeled as a "cow ghost and snake god". However, under any circumstances, Teacher Zhu still retains the habit of a soldier. As soon as a classmate calls his name during class, he subconsciously puts his legs together, stands at attention with a snap, and replies loudly: "Yes"!
In that era, these "problem teachers" were very nervous in class, and even teachers without problems were walking on thin ice in class. Once, a Chinese teacher accidentally said something inappropriate while explaining Chairman Mao's poems in class. A tall student who had practiced martial arts sitting in the last row jumped up from the back of the classroom, jumped over the desk, and rushed to the podium. He picked up the teacher's collar and declared that he was an "active counterrevolutionary." He found cardboard and hung a sign on the spot to criticize. There is also a teacher named Lian Lian. His hobby of eating ribs has also become his crime. The reason is because the old man said that the working class is hard bones. If you think about eating bones every day, you will destroy our working class.However, because his "crime" was relatively minor, Teacher Lian was later given the title of captain in the "Ox Demons and Snake Gods" labor reform brigade of Wangying Middle School...
In 1969, the year Mr. Zhao entered junior high school, his household registration had been transferred to Bochi with his family. Because he was too young, his grandfather was reluctant to let him go and kept him until he graduated from high school. Therefore, he lived with his grandfather during his middle school years. Although there was no homework at that time after school, he liked to light a lamp and read at night. Lighting a lamp consumed kerosene, and kerosene cost money. Every penny earned in those years was hard-earned! His grandmother cared about money and would not be happy when the lights were on at night, and sometimes she would be punished, both literally and falsely. It wasn't until he entered high school that he could go to school for evening self-study and the situation improved.
There are many kinds of them, just to name a few. In this chaotic atmosphere, with these two "basic knowledge", they spent the four years of junior high school and high school in the special era in the days of studying industry and agriculture.
It’s no wonder that their high school diplomas are difficult to be recognized in society. The reason is very simple, not to mention that middle school takes six years and they only studied for four years. Even those four years were spent in rural factories and I didn't really learn any cultural knowledge. Therefore, when Mr. Zhao and others later entered the hospital to work, the hospital did not recognize their high school diplomas. However, the hospital was still very responsible. It held night classes for them and invited teachers from Huaizhong and Qingjiang middle schools to teach them. After attending night classes and taking cultural qualification examinations, it reluctantly recognized their junior high school diplomas and issued them an "academic certificate." He still keeps this precious certificate intact to this day.
