Nets agree to trade 2 players with Rockets Pacers

The Brooklyn Nets, Houston Rockets and Indiana Pacers all made small moves on Tuesday night, including salary cuts and future draft picks.

According to ESPN's Wojnarowski, the Nets received the second-round picks from the Indiana Pacers for Sumner and Miami Heat in 2025. Once the deal is complete, Woj reported that Brooklyn will give up Sumner, who has been absent this season due to a knee injury.

On the other hand, the Nets sent Seku Dumbua and a future second-round pick to the Rockets. According to ESPN's Tim McMahon report, in 2024, this draft pick will not be protected, and Dumbua will be waived by Houston.

Recall that in September of this year, Dumbua and Jalil Okafor were traded to the Nets by Detroit Pistons in exchange for Jordan, four second rounds Players and cash.

In 2019, Dumbua was selected with the 15th overall pick of the Pistons. He was a project at the beginning, but this 6-foot-8 forward never achieved any potential close to him. In two seasons in Detroit, he averaged only 5.1 points and 2.6 rebounds per game.

From a basketball perspective, this series of silent transactions did not have much impact on the Nets. However, according to ESPN's Bobby Marks, this saved them a lot of money.

These two transactions will save Brooklyn $6.8 million in luxury taxes and $1.29 million in wages. Brooklyn saved a total of $8.1 million, making up for the second player to be sent to Houston in 2024 and the second player to be traded from Sumner from Indiana (via MIA) in 2025.

The Nets still have a bigger challenge with Irving’s vaccine. At the time of writing, the star point guard still has not changed his stance against the new crown vaccine.
