An Italian company displays the peculiar Mauser pistol, made by Yan Xishan Armory, a rare large-caliber model

Recently, the official account of Armeria Red Point showed a pistol on the social platform.

This Mauser pistol is very special. It is a 17-style pistol made in China, and it is the only Mauser with a caliber of .45 ACP. It is very small in number. In 1920, the warlord Yan Xishan instructed the Shanxi Bureau of Machinery to imitate the 1921 Thomson submachine gun, which had a caliber of .45 ACP, which became the beginning of the special caliber of pistols and submachine guns manufactured by Jin.

Shanxi banditry is serious and often threatens the safety of railway transportation. In order to ensure this important transportation line, Jinmade submachine guns are basically equipped with train guards. With the passage of time, the problem of the incompatibility of the Mauser pistol and the Jin-made submachine gun used by the guards gradually emerged. To solve this problem, the Shanxi Machinery Bureau enlarged and reinforced the Mauser pistol so that it could fire .45 ACP ammunition. It can be seen that the gun’s gauge has a range of 1000 meters, with one gear every 100 meters, and there are production serial numbers and gear-shaped signs on the gun handle.

In 1929, this large Mauser pistol with Shanxi characteristic .45 ACP ammunition was officially put into production and was named "Republic of China 17 Pistol". In 1928, the Shanxi Machinery Bureau was renamed as Shanxi Military Craft Training Factory. Therefore, the name of the manufacturer of this pistol was different from the name of the manufacturer, but it was essentially an enterprise. On the right side of the gun body, there is an inscription "made in Jin Dynasty in the 18th year of the Republic of China" in seal script, and there are obvious machining knife marks in the weight reduction groove on the side of the gun body.

Due to the larger diameter of the .45 ACP ammunition, the 10-round fixed magazine is significantly longer than the lower edge of the trigger guard. The texture of the gun body steel is not ideal, so there are uneven corrosion marks on the surface. Since the .45 ACP is significantly larger than the common 7.63×25mm Mauser ammunition, it was given the nickname "Big Eye Box." However, considering that the muzzle velocity of the .45 ACP ammunition is relatively slow and the recoil is relatively large, the shooting feel is very different from the ordinary Mauser pistol.

has a "seventeen-style" seal inscription on the left side of the gun body. This position is the trademark of Mauser on the original C96. Because the manufacturer's data was not rigorous at the time, the production quantity of this pistol was different. After more than 20 years of war, there are not many 17-style pistols made in Jin, and the ammunition used is relatively special. They are classified as old miscellaneous firearms, and most of them are turned into molten steel.

At the beginning of reform and opening up in the 1980s, because of lack of foreign exchange, China refurbished a batch of old miscellaneous firearms and then exported them abroad in exchange for the precious foreign exchange at that time. Presumably, this Jin-made 17-style pistol was exported at that time, and now it has become a valuable collection of the Italian company Amelia Red Dot.
