Military ranks are awarded to military personnel to determine their status in the army and facilitate identification and command. Military ranks are a symbol of honor for military personnel, which represents the recognition and encouragement of the party and the country.

Therefore, for every soldier, military rank is particularly important.

In 1955, the first military rank conferment conducted by our army, after considering a variety of factors, many people were fairly awarded corresponding military ranks, but some people were obviously awarded lower military ranks.

Among these people, the more representative person is Xiao Ke. He has very senior qualifications and a high position, but in the end he was a general. Many people expressed their dissatisfaction with this.

Xiao Ke himself accepted it calmly. Later, he said that the reason why he was awarded the general was because he had been on the wrong team several times in history, which affected his award. It can be seen that the award that year was affected by various factors.

There is also such a person in the Siye army. Although he is not as good as Xiao Ke, he is also a corps-level cadre, but in the end he was only awarded the rank of lieutenant general.

This person was completely unconvinced by this.

This person is Mo Wenhua who was the political commissar of the 14th Corps of the Fourth Field.

The Fourth Field Army is the strongest team among the four major field armies of our army. There are many generals in the Fourth Field Army, and naturally there are many strong generals, such as Li Tianyou, Han Xianchu and others, all came from the Fourth Field Army.

and Mo Wenhua was actually not weak compared to them, but when they were awarded the title later, Li Tianyou, Han Xianchu and others were all generals, while Mok Wenye was awarded the rank of lieutenant general.

Mok Wenhua has always been worried about this matter. In his later years, when he recalled this period of his history, he said that he might have become a lieutenant general because he offended someone. What is the legendary experience of

Mok Wenhua ? Who did he offend?

In 1910, Mo Wenhua was born into an enlightened family in Tingzi Village, Tingzi Township, Yongning County, Guangxi.

Mok Wenhua's grandfather was a martial arts official in the Qing Dynasty. However, due to the dark officialdom at that time, he did not choose to enter the military service. Instead, he did business at home. Under his influence, Mok Wenhua's father started doing business and was also a good hand.

During the Revolution of 1911, Mok Wenhua's father was very enlightened. He participated in the anti-Qing struggle many times. Later, after Yuan Shikai won the revolutionary victory, he participated in the "anti-Yuan struggle" led by Sun Yat-sen.

However, the early Republic of China was too chaotic, Mok Wenhua's father finally quit officialdom and returned to his hometown to live a stable life.

Mok Wenhua was born in such a family. Although he was not wealthy, he was already better off than most people of that era.

During his childhood, Mok Wenhua went to private school and elementary school. After attending middle school, Mok Wenhua was deeply influenced by the times and embarked on the road of revolution.

In 1926, 16-year-old Mok Wenhua joined the Communist Youth League. This event was really a major event in his life.

However, what Mok Wenhua did not expect was that as soon as he embarked on the road of revolution, he encountered a severe test.

In April 1927, Chiang Kai-shek launched the "April 12 Counterrevolution" in Shanghai. Subsequently, warlords from all over the country responded one after another, and the country gradually entered a period of white terror.

In Nanning, Guangxi, Mo Wenhua was arrested and imprisoned. This year, he was 17 years old.

The enemy will never be merciful to members of our party. In prison, Mok Wenhua was also beaten as never before. At that time, if he had spoken softly and given up his faith, he might not have to suffer such torture again, but Mok Wenhua stuck to his beliefs. He strictly guarded the party's secrets and did not reveal any of them.

has withstood the hardships, and Mo Wenhua and have also ushered in a new life.

In 1929, Mok Wenhua participated in the Baise Uprising led by Zhang Yunyi and Deng Xiaoping. Subsequently, Mok Wenhua followed Zhang Yunyi until they went to the Central Soviet Area to join forces with the Central Red Army..

After joining the Red Army , Mo Wenhua fought very bravely. In every battle, he charged forward and was not afraid of sacrifice at all. Because of this, he was appreciated by his superiors many times and his position was promoted quickly.

In Mok Wenhua's military career, he was not always the lucky one.

In 1932, during the battle against Ganzhou , Mo Wenhua led more than 40 death squad members into the city. At this moment, the city wall suddenly collapsed and he fell to the ground. Unfortunately, some members of the death squad of

were killed. Mok Wenhua escaped. Although he did not die, he was seriously injured.

However, maybe it was because of this visit to the Palace of Hell that Mo Wenhua gained more courage and experience in fighting, and his position was like a "plug-in", from a soldier to the director of the division political department of the Red Army , a proper mid-to-senior general of the Red Army.

During the Long March , Mo Wenhua 's life entered a new era.

During this period, Mok Wenhua served as political commissar of the superior cadre corps, director of the political office of the red cadre regiment, and other positions. The two teams of

are not simple.

Most of the members of the superior cadre team were from the Central Soviet Area, some old comrades who were persecuted by Bogu and Li De, such as Xiao Jinguang, Zhou Shidi, and others, as well as some "old revolutionaries" from the central government, such as Chairman Mao's teachers Xu Teli, Dong Biwu and others.

The person who serves as the captain of the cadre team is Xiao Jinguang. Mo Wenye can serve as the political commissar, which shows that his superiors trust and value him.

and then Mok Wenhua served as the director of the Political Department of the Red Cadre Corps. This team is even more complicated.

The leader of the Red Cadre Corps was Chen Geng, and the political commissar was Song Renqiong. The members of this team were also senior cadres of the Red Army. Mok Wenhua's position at this time was not low.

Later, Mo Wenhua successively participated in the battles of guarding Loushanguan , attacking Renhuai , and rushing to cross the Jinsha River.

Mok Wenye has participated in almost all of these famous battles fought by the Red Army during the Long March. Compared to some of the founding generals, based on this alone, Mok Wenye is stronger than many people.

After the Red Army arrived in northern Shaanxi in 1935, Mo Wenhua was reused again.

After the establishment of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army University, Mo Wenhua was appointed as the director of the Political Department. You must know that the people who worked with Mo Wenhua at this time were all "big shots."

The principal was Lin Biao, the chief of education was Luo Ruiqing, and the political commissar of the school was something that many people could not have imagined. He was Chairman Mao. When

was awarded the title in 1955, Lin Biao was the marshal and Luo Ruiqing was the general. Needless to say, Chairman Mao was able to work with such people, which shows the ability of Mok Wenhua.

After the Anti-Japanese War broke out, the Red Army was reorganized into the Eighth Route Army. Mo Wenhua did not go to the front line, but stayed in Yan'an and became the director of the political department of the left-behind corps.

This left-behind corps is not simple either.

At that time, many people called the "Left Behind Corps" the "Forest Army" of our party. Xiao Jinguang, the commander and political commissar of the Corps, was also Mo Wenhua's old partner.

Xiao Jinguang is Chairman Mao's favorite general and the first strategist with a professional background in our army. He is very much used by Chairman Mao, so he takes on this important task.

And Mo Wenhua can become a partner with Xiao Jinguang and become the second person in this "imperial army", which also shows the trust of the Party Central Committee in him.

Facts have proved that Mok Wenhua did not disappoint the party organization.

During the eight years of the Anti-Japanese War, although the left-behind corps did not go to the front line to fight against Japan, it made outstanding contributions to the defense of the Party Central Committee in Yan'an. In addition, the left-behind corps also fought off Japanese intrusions on the Yellow River many times, and also participated in the encirclement and suppression of bandits in northern Shaanxi.

Mok Wenhua, as director of the Political Department of the Corps, made outstanding contributions to the revolution during this period.

After the outbreak of the Liberation War, Mok Wenhua took an important step in his military career.

At that time, both the Kuomintang and the Communist Party attached great importance to the Northeast region. In order to seize the Northeast, our party sent more than 20,000 cadres and more than 100,000 troops. Mo Wenye was one of the more than 20,000 cadres.

As Mo Wenhua who held important positions during the Red Army and the Anti-Japanese War, after coming to the Northeast, he was naturally reused by Lin Biao.

successively served as the political commissar of the 4th Column of the Northeast Field Army, the political commissar of the 14th Corps of the Fourth Field and other important positions.

became the political commissar of the Corps, which was also the pinnacle of Mok Wenhua's military career.

The Fourteenth Corps of the Four Fields has jurisdiction over the 39th Army, the 41st Army and the 42nd Army. Their commanders are Liu Zhen, Wu Kehua and Wan Yi respectively.

When these three people were later awarded the title, they were general, lieutenant general, and lieutenant general.

As the political commissar of the Corps, Mo Wenhua was even inferior to his subordinates when he was awarded the title. You can imagine his dissatisfaction.

However, according to Mok Wenhua's qualifications and contributions, he should be a general, but in the end, why did he become a lieutenant general?

The public reason why Mo Wenhua failed to become a general is that he was criticized when he was suppressing bandits in Guangxi in the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

Banditry in Guangxi has been serious since modern times. When Guangxi was liberated, the Kuomintang Bai Chongxi troops retreated to Guangxi and continued to confront the People's Liberation Army tit for tat. After the People's Liberation Army troops entered Guangxi, they had to fight the Kuomintang troops while suppressing the bandits.

During this period, Guangxi's results in suppressing bandits were very poor.

On January 25, 1950, the "Gongcheng Riot" occurred in Guangxi. This was a riot led by a group of Kuomintang Lieutenant General Zhong Zupei who coerced 4,000 people.

During these riots, the enemy killed all our small troops and government staff stationed in various townships, and on the next day, they once invaded the county seat.

It was not until our army's reinforcements arrived that the riot was suppressed.

However, in addition to the riots in Gongcheng, riots of this kind also occurred in Yulin , Wuzhou and other places. These riots resulted in the killing of more than 3,000 cadres and the loss of 6.4 million kilograms of public grain.

Faced with the rampant bandits, Zhang Yunyi, the leader of Guangxi, immediately convened an emergency meeting.

At this time, Mo Wenhua was the deputy political commissar of the Guangxi Military Region, and of course he participated in the meeting. After the

meeting, the troops concentrated their forces to focus on the attack. For a while, the banditry in Guangxi was expected to be completely eradicated. However, not long after, with the outbreak of the Korean War, the bandits in Guangxi became rampant again, and the bandit suppression work entered a new era.

The serious banditry problem in Guangxi has also attracted the attention of the Party Central Committee.

In November 1950, Chairman Mao made a special trip to generate electricity and criticized Guangxi's ineffective suppression of bandits. He also expressed that he wanted Ye Jianying to come from Guangdong to Guangxi to help suppress bandits.

Regarding this, Zhang Yunyi from Guangxi, Mo Wenhua, and others felt very uncomfortable.

However, in the face of banditry, they couldn't help but think about it. According to Chairman Mao's instructions, in order to speed up the progress of suppressing bandits, the central government transferred the 21st Corps of the People's Liberation Army to Guangxi to strengthen the suppression of bandits.

Subsequently, Guinan first launched the key campaign to suppress bandits.

At the same time, Yaoshan's key bandit suppression campaign also started in January 1951.

Under Chairman Mao's cordial care, this time's bandit suppression was different from the past. Soon, the banditry in Guangxi and Yaoshan areas was completely eliminated. After learning about it, Chairman Mao specially generated electricity and praised Guangxi's bandit suppression work.

Encouraged by Chairman Mao, Zhang Yunyi, Mo Wenhua and others were very happy. They seized the opportunity and continued to strengthen the force of suppressing bandits. After more than a year, Guangxi's suppression of bandits finally declared victory.

The work of suppressing bandits in Guangxi was over, Mo Wenhua also served as the mayor of Nanning, and he set his sights on local development.

During this term, Mo Wenhua mainly did two things that had a greater impact. First, the original four counties of Hepu, Lingshan, Qinzhou, and Fangcheng in Guangdong were placed under the jurisdiction of Guangxi. Second, he promptly repaired and expanded the Hunan-Guangxi Railway.

These two events had a great impact on the development of Guangxi, both at the time and now.

Later, Mo Wenhua returned to the army from the local area due to his outstanding work and served as the director of the Political Department of the Northeast Military Region. This position is not a low one.

In 1955, Mo Wenhua participated in the first conferment of our army and was awarded the rank of lieutenant general.

Many people don’t understand this.

Mok Wenhua is a corps-level cadre. According to the regulations at that time, he should at least be a general, so why was he finally awarded the rank of lieutenant general. The reason

made public is that when it was rated in 1952, Mok Wenhua was at the deputy corps level. This situation is also very surprising. As a political commissar at the corps level, why did he become the deputy corps level when it was rated? Somewhat puzzled.

Secondly, judging from Mok Wenhua's resume, he has worked in government agencies and institutions for a long time and has served as a military and political officer for a short time. This is also an important reason.

However, and Mo Wenhua don’t see it this way.

Mok Wenhua believes that he became a lieutenant general because someone was obstructing him.

After retiring in 1988, Mok Wenhua wrote his own memoirs. In his memoirs, he wrote that he was awarded the rank of lieutenant general entirely because he had offended others.

The person he offended was Gao Gang . He believed that he failed to become a general because Gao Gang was biased against him when he was the commander and political commissar of the Northeast Military Region, so he was eventually promoted to the deputy corps level.

The reason is that during the Anti-Japanese War, Mo Wenhua did not agree with Gao Gang to serve as the political commissar of the left-behind regiment. This is the reason why Mo Wenhua offended Gao Gang.

Mok Wenhua was awarded the title of Lieutenant General. Luo Ronghuan and others also knew the reason. He and Lin Biao also expressed their comfort to Mok Wenhua. For this, Mok Wenhua was also very grateful.

Since then, Mo Wenhua has served as deputy political commissar of Fuzhou Military Region, political commissar of the Armored Forces and other positions.
