In 1949, many senior Kuomintang generals followed Chiang Kai-shek to Taiwan and continued to confront the people's armed forces. But many generals refused to leave the mainland and happily joined the red camp, became part of the New China, and made outstanding contributions to national construction. Among the most representative figures is General Wu Zhongsheng.
Wu Zhongxing is from Anhui, with a prominent family background. His great-grandfather was a tribute student in the late Qing Dynasty. He was knowledgeable and taught in his hometown and cultivated many outstanding talents. My grandfather once served as an assistant to the local feudal government and was very famous. Wu Zhongxing received strict education since childhood, started studying at the age of 6, and studied under a famous scholar at the age of 12. Later, with the support of his grandfather, he transferred to a Western school to study. In just half a year, he finished all the three years of courses. The following year, he was admitted to a provincial high school in Anhui to further his studies.
1931, Wu Zhongxing applied for the surveying school founded by the Kuomintang at the suggestion of his relatives. After graduating in 1935, he was assigned to work in a military surveying unit in Nanjing. In 1937, after occupying Shanghai, the Japanese invaders rushed towards Nanjing with great momentum. Wu Zhongshan followed his comrades to work in Wuhan first, and then rushed to Guizhou to settle down, suffering all the way.
After the end of the War of Resistance Against Japan, the Kuomintang sent Wu Zhongxing to the British Survey Bureau in India for further study. Here, he learned a lot of knowledge that he had never been exposed to before, and his business abilities became more outstanding. After returning to China, he published many professional papers one after another, which caused a huge shock in the industry. He became famous and was known as the first person in China to measure and map making.
In 1947, Wu Zhongxing was transferred to the surveying school to serve as an instructor. At this time, he was full of energy and wanted to carry forward the surveying and mapping industry and cultivate good talents for the country, but reality hit him hard. Wu Zhongxing's superior is a mediocre person and is not interested in education at all. He just wants to make money and make profits. He actually moved the teaching funds without authorization and deducted the instructors' salaries, which made Wu Zhongshan very dissatisfied. He complained everywhere, but never received satisfactory feedback. Therefore, he realized that the Kuomintang had become corrupt and followed Chiang Kai-shek and would not have a good ending!
At the end of 1948, northern China had been liberated, the People's Liberation Army took advantage of the situation to move south, and the National Government was in danger. Chiang Kai-shek wanted to move the surveying school to Taiwan, but Wu Zhongxing refused to go south to Baodao. He took the initiative to apply to work in Chongqing to get out. After obtaining approval, he hurried to southwest . As a result, the People's Liberation Army arrived not long after entering Chongqing.
The party organization has always respected technical personnel very much. Therefore, instead of making things difficult for Wu Zhongxing, he arranged new work for him to contribute to the construction of New China. In 1950, the People's Liberation Army was preparing to march into Tibet, and Wu Zhongxing immediately led his men to draw a topographic map of Tibet for use overnight. Li Da General appreciated him very much and specially invited him to the Southwest Military Region headquarters to teach the People's Liberation Army cadres to explain the map drawing process and components.
1951, Wu Zhongxing participated in the national military map drawing work led by the General Staff Department, and was directly transferred to Beijing the following year. At the end of that year, he was appointed as a teacher at the military academy in Shenyang, and many technical backbones in the People's Liberation Army were his disciples. In 1988, Wu Zhongxing voluntarily applied for retirement due to physical reasons. In 1989, the university textbooks he edited were published and adopted by many prestigious schools. In 1999, he died of illness in Beijing at the age of 87.
General Wu loves the motherland and the people, has a good family style, and his second son is also very outstanding under his influence. The second son is the famous Comrade Wu Bangguo. He graduated from Tsinghua University and served as Secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee. He became the Vice Premier of the State Council in 1995 and was elected as a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee in 2002. He served as chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and is a leading cadre at the national level.
General Wu Zhongxing was in the Kuomintang in his early years, but he had always kept himself clean and never joined forces with corrupt elements, and always maintained good character. After joining the People's Government, he worked hard on his post and successfully completed every task assigned by his superiors, which played an important role in the development of New China and the People's Liberation Army.He is a good comrade and a cultural and educational contribution of the Republic. Let us pay tribute to this great pioneer!
