1. Terrain disadvantage, fierce battle with Zhulinshan

After returning home, Yang Chaofen worked everywhere to make money, just to help her parents share some of the burden of life. Later until 1978, the Sino-Vietnam border relations deteriorated and tensions were about to break out. Against this background, Yang Chaofen joined the army in 1978. After coming to the army, Yang Chaofen continued to carry forward his hard work in learning and studied military technology. One day he will make contributions to the country.
In the winter of 1978, Yang Chaofen followed the troops to the border near the border. After living here for a while, the Sino-Vietnam Counterattack War started in February 1979. This was a big challenge for Yang Chaofen, who was only 11 months old at the time, but in order to contribute to the country, Yang Chaofen resolutely followed the troops forward bravely.
1979 at 6:00 a.m. on February 17, 1979, 21-year-old Yang Chaofen followed the large army for two hours of fighting and finally captured the enemy's highlands 1, 2 and 3. After a short rest, at 9 a.m. on the 17th, the troops decided to take advantage of the victory and seize Zhulin Mountain, the No. 4 Highland.
The war on the first day was harsh. Although the People's Liberation Army was prepared and brave in combat, it still suffered some losses. However, under the great process of advancing the overall front, this loss is not worth the troops stopping and repairing. The overall situation must be taken into account in the face of major events. Yang Chaofen knew this in his heart, so the fear in his heart disappeared in a blink of an eye.
At that time, Yang Chaofen's troops were affiliated with the 21st Company of the 5th Battalion of the 1st Border Defense Regiment of the 1st Border Defense Regiment among the border defense forces of the Guangxi Military Region. After deciding to fight against Vietnam, the border defense garrison troops of the Guangxi Military Region strengthened their troops and made certain strategic deployments. 4 Heights is located in front of the right side of Heights No. 3. Although the area is less than 1 square kilometer, the terrain is complex. The mountain is covered with bamboo . Therefore, Heights No. 4 is also called Zhulin Mountain. Before the battle started, scout learned about the situation here in advance. Bamboo forest mountain, bamboo trees form forests, hence the name Bamboo forest mountain. In addition to the dense bamboo, there is also a thatch thatch that is tall for people here. Looking around, there is almost no cover to hide in the entire mountain. Beneath the bushes of thorns, there are steep hills.
Under the natural geographical advantage, the Vietnamese army has been operating here for a long time with the mountains and bamboo forests, and the fortifications have been built quite maturely. Various trenches and hidden firepower points were very unfavorable to the PLA's operations. A total of dozens of castles were built from the mountainside to the top of the mountain. This was only discovered by the scouts, and there were more firepower points that were not discovered.
2. Continue to fight, no progress

If this continues, it will delay the overall combat speed. Before the troops set off, the military commander issued an instruction: must cooperate closely and must not delay the fighter jets.
In such a situation, he had to launch the role of infantry. After discussion, the battalion command decided that the 19th Company would be the main attacking company, launching an attack from the front to Highland No. 4, and then tear the hole open, and then the 20th Company and 21st Company would continue to serve as the main attacking company. Although Yang Chaofen's 21st Company was very motivated, he suffered a lot of losses in the previous battles, so he did not participate in the main attack at the beginning.
I thought the battle in Highland No. 4 was less than the 21st Company, but unexpectedly, the Vietnamese army in the Zhulin Mountain position was different from the enemies on the previous battlefields. The Vietnamese army guarding here had already built solid fortifications, with dozens of skulls alone.

The battle lasted from 9 a.m. to around 5 p.m. The 19th company who was in the assist task suffered heavy casualties, and the soldiers were generally tired. Under such circumstances, the task of attacking the No. 4 Highland was handed over to the 21st Company, which was temporarily rested.
The People's Liberation Army attacked fiercely, the Vietnamese army counterattacked fiercely, and the crossfire point offensive was very fierce. With the advantage of terrain, the Vietnamese army's firepower suppressed the opportunity to hit 19 consecutive times without any impact, and launched several charges without success.
Under such circumstances, 19 consecutive losses were heavy, and there was no new progress in the Zhulin Mountain position until the afternoon. During the last charge, the company commander was unfortunately shot, and the 19th Company, which was fighting on the front, lost its command direction. Seeing this situation, the 5th Battalion had to readjust its strategy.
19 Company suffered heavy losses and lost its command capabilities. The battalion command decided to let the 21st Company, which was hidden on standby on the front line, form an assault platoon and attack the enemy's positions under the cover of the blasting team and firepower team. After receiving the task, the 21st Company urgently divided the tasks, and the blasters leaped forward and blasted the Vietnamese army castles on the Zhulin Mountain position one by one. As long as these numerous firepower points were pulled out, the subsequent attack would be much easier.
3. Sacrifice your life and blast the castle
In this operation, Yang Chaofen was arranged to be a blaster as a soldier in the 21st Company. After hearing the order, he did not hesitate for a moment, and took the explosive bag and came to the position. After arriving at the position, Yang Chaofen used the crater and thatch as cover to approach the Vietnamese army's castle.
During the process of completing the blasting, Yang Chaofen stuffed blasting tube into the enemy's bastion three times. One of them was still fighting with the enemy for the blasting tube within 10 seconds of blasting time, and bombed the enemy's bastion at the critical moment. During this blasting operation, Yang Chaofen was overturned by the explosion airflow and was covered with dust on the spot.
Fortunately, there was nothing serious. He was overturned by the airflow behind the enemy. Yang Chaofen stood up and continued to fight before he could even slap the dust on his body. It was during this operation to explode the Vietnamese army's castle that this young soldier, who was only 11 months old, was famous in the army. In order to facilitate the blasting team to complete their tasks, the People's Liberation Army's artillery fire covering Zhulinshan stopped after the blasting team entered the position, and the contest really began. The machine gun in the castle was shooting wildly. Faced with the fierce enemy's attack, the nine-person blasting team was quickly disbanded, and some people were injured.
Under such circumstances, Yang Chaofen realized that the task on his shoulders was heavier.In order to complete the task as soon as possible and reduce the losses of the troops, Liu Shusheng and Yang Chaofen charged forward and took the lead in blasting the Vietnamese army's castle. The distribution of each castle is built according to the terrain. Some castles have almost never stopped shooting, and it is very likely that ten thousand men will be unable to escape.
Yang Chaofen was very sensitive to the location of the castle, so he focused on these important castles. The situation on the battlefield changed in an instant. In order to seize the opportunity, Yang Chaofen observed with all his attention on the battlefield, and seized the opportunity and flexibly penetrated into favorable terrain.
In order to compete for the blasting opportunity, Yang Chaofen threw the grenade in front of the enemy's castle shooting hole. While the enemy was rushing to stop shooting, he stuffed the blasting tube into the castle. Unexpectedly, the enemy quickly pushed the blasting barrel out. Afterwards, everyone praised Yang Chaofen's heroic actions on the battlefield, believing that this was exactly the same as Huang Jiguang, a combat hero who used his body to block the enemy's castle shooting hole on the Korean battlefield. Therefore, everyone calls him "Xiao Huang Jiguang".
Under the blast of the assault platoon, the defense system of the Vietnamese position was quickly destroyed. The soldiers of the 21st Company fought bravely and finally wiped out the Vietnamese army at 19:00 on the 17th and captured the Vietnamese Highland No. 4.
After the battle, the 1st Border Defense Regiment moved into defense and cleared out the remaining enemies on the Highlands 1-4, and after a simple rest, it continued to attack on the Highlands 6, 7 and 8.
Later, Yang Chaofen's heroic deeds on the battlefield were learned by the Central Military Commission and awarded him the honorable title of "Huang Jiguang-like combat hero". The combat deeds were widely circulated in the troops at that time, greatly encouraging the fighting spirit of the PLA soldiers
If Yang Chaofen had not sacrificed his life, the Battle of Zhulinshan would not have ended so quickly. The 19th consecutive battle lasted for nearly 8 hours, but did not gain any advantage from the Vietnamese position, which shows the solidity of the Zhulinshan position.
Under the circumstances at that time, the Vietnamese army was constantly consuming the strength of the People's Liberation Army. With the advantage of terrain and the solid undercover building that was previously built, the Vietnamese army will soon carry out firepower suppression as long as the People's Liberation Army launches a charge.
