After the war, the Japanese army claimed that they only suffered 2 casualties.
This battle also became a heartbreaking thing for Marshal Nie Rongzhen. He once said: "The battle in Yangjiapu was a rare and heavy battle of our army on the battlefield of the Anti-Japanese War in North China."

1944, the Japanese army was at the end of their journey, like grasshoppers in autumn, which could not jump for a few days.
In June of this year, the US military captured Saipan, Guam and Tinian through three months of landing operations. The B29 bomber can bomb Japan's strategic goals anytime and anywhere. The major Japanese cities except Kyoto, Nara, etc. were destroyed, and the Tojo Hideki cabinet was destroyed.
After the arduous war of resistance, the dawn of the Chinese military and civilians showed.
And the Japanese army was like a return to the future. In this year, it launched the "Operation No. 1" plan, dispatched 500,000 troops, and launched the Henan, Hunan and Guangxi Battle. However, because of this, the Japanese army's troops in the North China region behind were empty, and each county town had only a thousand Japanese and puppet troops. The pressure on our anti-Japanese base area was reduced sharply.
The Eighth Route Army Border Region has begun to carry out land reform, construction and development have made rapid progress, and the situation is very good.
But under such a great situation, the Yangjiapu breakout, which suffered heavy losses, was unexpected and heartbreaking.
On October 16, 1944, the Hebei-Residence Special Committee held a conference, with the theme of the conference being "Further Implementing the Rent and Interest Reduction Meeting".
Reduce rent and interest reduction means that landlords are required to rent land to landless farmers, but the rent must be reduced by one quarter and the rent interest must also be reduced.
This is a continuous meeting because rent reduction is a systematic work, with many details that need to be implemented, and most of the participants are administrative cadres.
Conference location is in Yangjiapu (Yangjiayu) in Fengrun County. This is a village with only more than 200 households, located in the valley of the mountainous area in the northern Fengrun.
There were more than 500 administrative cadres attending the conference. In order to ensure the safety of the participants, Zhou Wenbin, a special committee member of the border region, made careful arrangements for the protection work.
[Zhou Wenbin, born in 1907, was originally named Kim Sung-ho, a Korean. He came to China with his father when he was young and later joined the Chinese revolution. After the Anti-Japanese Riot in East Hebei in 1938, he served as secretary of the Eastern Hebei Prefectural Committee and the Organization Minister of the Special Committee of Hebei in East Hebei.

Reasonablely, more than 500 people held a meeting and more than 300 people served as guards, and the number of people was no longer small.
But there is a detail that I have to say that the meeting was held in Xiaolinggou Village, , at this time, I suddenly received information about the Japanese army's large number of troops increasing in Feng, Luan, Qian, Zun and other surrounding strongholds.
Therefore, the meeting made a decision, and the venue was moved from the Conservation Village in Yangbao Mountain to the Yangjiapu area a few kilometers away, preparing to continue the meeting here.
Since the enemy has increased its troops in large numbers, there will definitely be further military operations, so we should be vigilant.
Moreover, the southern part of Fengrun is an endless plain, which is conducive to the Japanese military operations; since this is the case, the conference should be cancelled, or the cordon line should be extended outwards and observation posts will be arranged. In this way, accidents will occur, and there will be sufficient time to transfer.
It’s a pity that I didn’t do this at that time, which laid the groundwork for the later tragedy.
Continue after the meeting location was transferred, the atmosphere was warm, the participants were excited, ready to go back and have a big fight.
In the early morning of October 17, 1944 (August 30th of the Old Calendar), dense gunfire suddenly sounded around, cutting through the tranquility of the night sky.
Intuitively tells the participants that they are surrounded by large groups of enemies!
The participants were very puzzled. The meeting was held secretly and it was impossible for the enemy to know the meeting location. How did the news leak?
There are two statements. One statement is that before the meeting was held, a squad leader of the Eighth Route Army was responsible for notifying the meeting and was captured by the Japanese army on the road.
The Japanese army found a meeting notice from him, obtained relevant information, and then killed him.
Another statement is that the Japanese army received information from the inside that a large number of Eighth Route Army cadres in Fengrun were holding meetings there.
may also have both cases, but the first possibility is relatively small. If the person in charge of notifying the meeting is arrested, our army will definitely be vigilant, change the meeting location or temporarily cancel the meeting.
is likely to have traitors inside, or there are enemies undercover among the masses.
Because 800 people have too big goals for meetings, they eat, drink, defecate, urinate, and sleep, and have a lot of movement. If you want to keep it confidential, the difficulty can be imagined.
In short, the news of the meeting was leaked, and we didn’t know at all, and we were still having a normal meeting.
After receiving the information, the Japanese army was overjoyed. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for so many cadres to hold meetings.
So, the Japanese army quickly gathered troops, mobilized the Japanese troops from Shanhaiguan, Tangshan and all over the eastern Hebei region, and took the independent mixed 8th Brigade commanded by the commander of the Takeuchi Anshou Brigade as the main force. There were more than 3,000 elite troops, and rushed towards Yangjiapu with great momentum.
After a major raid, the Japanese army became very cunning. In order to achieve the suddenness of the military operation, they did not even notify the puppet army to join the war. They were worried that the Eighth Route Army would be undercover in the puppet army, and the military operation would be leaked, and the efforts would be in vain.
It was a heavy fog that day, and 3,000 Japanese soldiers quietly approached Yangjiapu under the cover of thick fog.
At this time, the meeting of that day had ended, and the participants began to rest and fell asleep.
The Japanese army quietly occupied several villages near Yangjiapu and the surrounding commanding heights, forming a huge and airtight encirclement.
After the enemy completes the encirclement, they begin to advance forward and narrow the encirclement.
, and our guard unit did not set up a guard post outside the village, so he was not alert to it. It was not until the gunfire sounded that he knew he was surrounded by the enemy.
As soon as the gunshot sounded, everyone was awakened. Soon the guards took out their guns and threw them into battle. The militia in the village also picked up their guns, while the farmers picked up their hoes, intending to fight to the death with the enemy.
District Special Committee Organization Minister Zhou Wenbin, Propaganda Department Minister Lu Guang and others quickly gathered the guard team to move closer to the center of Yangjiapu Village to protect the cadres there.
Because the correspondent reported at the beginning: "There are hundreds of enemies." So Zhou Wenbin and the others planned to stick to the ground and wait for reinforcements.
But there are more and more enemies, coming from all directions like tides, and the gunshots are getting more and more intense.
Zhou Wenbin, who has experienced many battles, has a serious expression, and he feels that the enemy must be more than a few hundred people, and what is about to be fought will be a fierce battle.
Therefore, he quickly gathered everyone together and said to everyone: "It seems that the enemy is prepared, and the troops are likely to be ten times that of ours. Therefore, we cannot stick to it, and the only way out is to break through."
He made a quick decision and decided to send people to occupy the commanding heights.
Liu Jingyu, the company commander of the Second Special Co., Ltd., is from Yangjiapu and is very familiar with the surrounding terrain. He also suggested that the team move to the northern mountains.
Next, the team immediately gathered and moved towards Guanyizhai and Panjiayu.
Prefectural Party Secretary Ding Zhenjun led a squad to rush to Matishan; Wang Shaoqi, Minister of Health and Political Commissar of the Military Sub-district, and Liu Jingyu, Company Commander of the 2nd Company, led his troops to rush to Femma Mountain; Lu Guang, Deputy Minister of the Propaganda Department, led his fourth company to Xicheng Mountain, west of Matishan.
However, the enemy must have understood the surrounding terrain in advance and made careful arrangements.
The troops breaking through the commanding heights such as Panjiayu, Jiemaoshan, Matishan, Xichengshan and other commanding heights were either blocked or quickly surrounded after a short period of occupation.
The enemy has controlled all commanding heights. Even if there is no controllable commanding heights, the enemy intentionally left behind and deployed heavy troops around.
Under the severe situation, Zhou Wenbin could only change his strategy of occupying the commanding heights and decided to break through separately.
He made the worst plan and no longer wanted to escape unstoppably. He rushed out and counted as much as he wanted.
Thinking of this, Zhou Wenbin said to everyone with a serious expression: "Comrades, the situation is very serious. I immediately burn all the documents, completely lightly, prepare to break through, and fight to the death with the enemy."
For a moment, a raging fire broke out in the Yangjiapu. Confidential personnel and cadres were guarding the fire, throwing stacks of relevant documents, bundles of border currency, and their notes were all put into the fire one after another. The
file burned for a long time, and the cadres and soldiers were guarding the surroundings, and they left as they watched all the files turn into ashes.
But before he walked out of the yard, bullets flew towards them roaring...
When life and death are at stake, they put their safety aside and put the interests of the people first. They are noble and honest, and they are still honored even if they die.
The soldiers were very brave. They rushed to the mountain pass again and again, and were shot back by the enemy's fierce firepower again and again. The dense bullets shot at them like raindrops. The valley was full of comrades and bodies.
Fierce battles from morning to noon and then to afternoon.
Around 4 pm, gunfire gradually became sparse, and there was not much left in our army. The rest of the people understand that there is no possibility of surviving, and just hope to kill one more enemy.
They reminded each other: leave the last bullet for themselves and prevent the enemy from capturing them.
Some buryed the empty pistols, and some smashed the spears with stones. Many people held the only remaining grenade in their hands, and calmly waited for the last moment to come.
The cruel Japanese army, holding excellent weapons, was unscrupulously killing the anti-Japanese military and civilians.
Propaganda Minister Lu Guang and his lover Yu Fen fell, Ding Zhenjun, the commissioner of the Administrative Office and political commissar of the Military Sub-district, fell, and Zhou Wenbin, the Organization Minister of the District Special Committee, was also shot and died.
The troops of the spy company commander Liu Jingyu rushed out of the enemy's encirclement after paying a huge price of casualties and transported a small number of border areas cadres.
At this time, as long as he continues to move forward with the soldiers, he can get rid of danger. No one blames him, and he can even become a hero.
But Liu Jingyu did not do that. He kept his responsibilities in mind and protected the leaders and cadres.
So he sternly said to "Comrades, what is our mission?"
The soldiers answered at the same time: "Defend the organs and defend the chief."
He looked at the soldiers with relief and gave a decisive order: "Okay, the time for us is now, kill back bravely!"
The soldiers did not hesitate for a moment. They turned around with big guns and rushed towards the original path.
The enemy who occupied the commanding heights shot dense bullets at these soldiers who were ready to die, and Liu Jingyu fell down seriously injured.
But he still lay down on the ground, enduring the severe pain, and shooting at the enemy.
At the last moment, he covered his abdomen with his right hand, his eyes full of anger, and he stood up with his head held high, raising his arms and slogans.
At this time, three Japanese soldiers fired at the same time. The warrior shed his last drop of blood and slowly fell on the hot land of his hometown.
At around 5 pm, the gunshot finally stopped, the tragic battle came to an end, the valley was full of corpses, and the air was filled with blood, making people breathless.
The valley was silent, as silent as death, only the goshawks and wild wolves smelled the bloody smell and came to this bloody battlefield.
Facing the Japanese army that was several times more than one, our army was not afraid of danger, fought bloody battles, and wrote a song of righteousness.
However, due to the large number of enemies, 430 cadres and soldiers including Zhou Wenbin, Li Shan, Lu Guang, Ding Zhenjun, Wang Shaoqi, Liu Jingyu, Ma Lingfu, Wei Chong died heroically.
In the end, only more than 120 cadres and soldiers successfully broke through. This is the fierce Yangjiapu breakout in the Hebei-Residence area since the War of Resistance Against Japan.
Regarding the number of casualties of the Japanese army, our army records more than 300 people.
The Japanese army claimed that there were only 2 people, which was obviously impossible; although the number of enemies was absolutely superior, and there were machine guns and cannons, and they also occupied the commanding heights, but for more than ten hours of fierce fighting, it was impossible to only suffer 2 casualties, unless they were all wearing body armor .
According to the memories of old soldiers who have experienced this battle, as the top main force, each soldier is equipped with 25 bullets and 4 grenades, which is already the top-notch one.
grenades can only be used when the enemy approaches. How long can 25 bullets be fired?
Our army had a total of 300 combat personnel and less than 10,000 bullets.
Yangjiapu battle was very tragic and left a profound lesson. The area where the battle broke out was only a few dozen kilometers away from Tangshan, an enemy-occupied area. Such a large-scale meeting under the enemy's nose made mistakes. And there are also mistakes in alertness and are not vigilant enough.
