Different from previous documentaries, the subject captured this time was not a combat hero, but a doctor. He was Gong Yuejiang, then deputy director of the outpatient department of the 210th Hospital of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.
Gong Yuejiang once served in the army, but had never set foot on a battlefield in his life. After leaving the army, he changed his profession and became a doctor, establishing immortal achievements in the new field.
In his many years of medical practice, he has made unimaginable achievements: first-class merit 41 times, third-class merit 48 times, 20 commendations, as for "Advanced Individual", "Lei Feng Model", etc. The honors are countless.
The so-called benevolence of doctors is reflected in Gong Yuejiang's daily life. He has also actively carried out charity work for more than ten years. He has donated a total of more than 40,000 yuan to help many poor students enter college.
Because of this, he is also rated as one of the most popular doctors in Dalian .
However, what is little known is that Gong Yuejiang, who seems to be kind-hearted, once had a legendary experience: He once served as Lin Biao's last guard.
1. "By mistake" he became the chief security officer.
Gong Yuejiang is a native of Zibo, Shandong Province. He was born in Huantai County, , a famous water town in Qilu.
Gong Yuejiang was born in 1952. Due to his excellent academic performance and intelligence, in 1968, just after Gong Yuejiang graduated from junior high school, he was assigned to a local primary school and became a people's teacher.
Although Gong Yuejiang only had a junior high school education, at that time, he was a "all-rounder" in the village.
Gong Yuejiang is good at calligraphy and can also draw. In addition to school work, he also helps the village propaganda department to draw some posters and oil paintings and write some publicity characters.
Due to his leisurely work, Gong Yuejiang always goes to the nearby river to swim and catch fish after get off work every day, living a quite comfortable life.
But one summer in 1970, a few words from a stranger brought him a new life that he had never imagined.
On this day, Gong Yuejiang was swimming in the water as usual, when suddenly a man in his 30s and wearing a military uniform walked next to him.
Seeing Gong Yuejiang's outstanding water ability, the man was quite interested and stopped to watch.
After Gong Yuejiang surfaced, the strange man suddenly shouted to him: "Hey, little comrade, do you want to be a soldier?"
After hearing this, Gong Yuejiang also became interested and asked: " Should I be in the Air Force or the Navy?"
"You don't have to ask so much. Anyway, if you follow me, it will be better than the Air Force and the Navy."
After a few words, Gong Yuejiang agreed without much thought, and joined the army with the man.
That afternoon, while Gong Yuejiang's students were sitting in class waiting for their teacher, Gong Yuejiang had already boarded the train to Dandong, Liaoning Province.
Gong Yuejiang was only 18 years old this year. Only later did he find out that the man in his 30s who persuaded him to join the army was a company commander of the 85th Brigade of the 8341st Army, and his "arms" were indeed far away. Beyond the Navy and Air Force, the 85th Brigade has only one mission, which is to be responsible for the security of national leaders.
The train drove for several days and nights. Finally, as the mountains outside the window receded, Gong Yuejiang and 6 recruits who were also special recruits finally arrived in Dandong, Liaoning Province.
Gong Yue, who first joined the army, was so fresh and curious about everything around him. kept looking around. At this time, he still didn't know his true mission. In the days after
, Gong Yuejiang was incorporated into the recruit company for basic training. Due to Gong Yuejiang's good physique and extremely smart mind, he successfully passed the assessment after several months of trial training.
Normally, after the training of the new recruit company is completed, the soldiers will be assigned to specific companies.
However, Gong Yuejiang was not assigned, but once again received a new task of "camping and training". followed dozens of veterans on foot from Dandong to Dalian , 300 kilometers away.
The winter in the Northeast is very cold. After walking for a week against the biting cold wind, Gong Yuejiang finally saw the destination of his trip - Luda Security Area through the thick blood mist.
can persist here, he has passed the basic test. In 1970, Gong Yuejiang officially became a member of the 85th Brigade of the 8341st Army, specifically responsible for the security work of the leader. The
85 brigade is located near Zhongshan District, Dalian. Unlike other army stations, the security level here is extremely high. The entire army compound is surrounded by several-meter-high bulletproof walls, and it is even equipped with a high-voltage power grid, which was rare in those days.
In addition, the open and hidden sentry has three floors inside and three outside. There is even a large air-raid shelter with generators and oxygen concentrators placed inside. It is not so much a military station as More like a doomsday survival shelter.
There is always a tense and solemn atmosphere in the air.
2. During the days with Lin Biao: I never heard him say a word
After entering the 85th Brigade, Gong Yuejiang received extremely strict training here. From machine guns to pistols, Gong Yuejiang had to master all conventional weapons equipped by the People's Liberation Army at that time.
Marksmanship training involves the instructor carrying a basket of potatoes, standing dozens of meters away, and constantly throwing it into the sky. As long as the target is missed, penalty runs are common and extra practice is required.
In addition to shooting training, other confidential training and grappling are commonplace, and they often practice to the point where they can't lift their arms the next day.
Gong Yuejiang is considered a "good seedling" as a soldier. Within a few months, he has adapted to the life here. He has developed a good marksmanship. He shoots the potatoes he throws one by one. In the shooting competition held in the company , won first place many times.
As for secrecy and grappling, it is no problem, and he comes out on top every time.
Finally, after a year and a half of training, Gong Yuejiang got the news: he was selected and became the three chief "internal security guards" among the 200 trainees. immediately went to work at Lin Biao's Nanshan villa.
If you want to ask Gong Yuejiang what it is like to work next to the chief, Gong Yuejiang's answer is: has no feeling.
Except for the excitement when he first met Lin Biao, his daily life was basically the same as when he was in the company, except that there was no heavy daily training.
Lin Biao has always been taciturn. During the more than a year that Gong Yuejiang stayed with Lin Biao, he actually didn't say a word to Lin Biao. He didn't even know what Lin Biao's voice sounded like, and he didn't even give a simple nod.
In daily life, Gong Yuejiang is also strictly required:
He cannot call the chief by any name or position, and is only allowed to call him "chief".
If by chance you are facing the leader head-on, you are not allowed to look at the leader with your eyes. You must look straight ahead.
As an internal security guard, Gong Yuejiang must keep a distance of two meters and within three meters from the leader at all times during his duties.
This also meant that although Gong Yuejiang stayed with Lin Biao, there was not even any unnecessary contact between the two for two years.
In addition to doing a good job as a security guard, Gong Yuejiang also has to pay attention to Lin Biao's life.
Lin Biao's daily routine was very regular. When he got up at 6 o'clock in the morning, Gong Yuejiang had to prepare face wash, towel soap, and squeeze in toothpaste so that Lin Biao could use it on the spot.
When Lin Biao was walking, Gong Yuejiang could not appear in his field of vision. He could only follow him, keep a certain distance from him, and be alert at all times.
After washing up and taking a walk, when it was time for breakfast, Gong Yuejiang immediately took the breakfast from the chef and placed it on Lin Biao's dining table.
Lin Biao's breakfast is very regular, usually just a bowl of porridge, one dish ( steamed Wuchang fish ), and a few plates of pickles.
After doing all this, Lin Biao entered working mode, and he had time to eat quickly.
Lin Biao likes to bask in the sun, so there is a custom-made motor gate above his office. Just press a button to open the sun from above and shine on Lin Biao's recliner.
In addition, Lin Biao is also very strict about temperature and humidity, requiring it to be maintained at around 20°C.
It's not so bad in winter. You just need to look at the thermometer in the boiler room and adjust the heating at all times.
But it was very difficult in the summer, when there was no air conditioning. The only effective way is to use ice cubes for cooling, so in summer, the waiter will bring a lot of ice cubes to cool down.
Melting ice will increase humidity, so people made a large cage with reed mats and wrapped it above the villa, leaving only the window for Lin Biao to bask in the sun, in order to slow down the melting of the ice.
These tasks must be carried out every day, even when Lin Biao goes out for a meeting. According to the requirements of the superior department at that time: the villa must be prepared for the chief executive to move in at any time.
Compared with the training in the army, although these tasks are tedious, they are not difficult. Gong Yuejiang has been doing his job conscientiously.
3. A pack of " mass production " cigarettes that changed his destiny
In 1971, Gong Yuejiang encountered a strict investigation, but fate is sometimes so magical, and a pack of cigarettes saved Gong Yuejiang from trouble.
One day Gong Yuejiang was wandering in the room as usual, and happened to see a cadre next to Lin Biao rummaging through the ashtray on the desk, trying to find some unfinished cigarette butts.
Seeing the scene in front of him, Gong Yuejiang immediately understood that this cadre probably had no more cigarettes.
Gong Yuejiang himself does not smoke, but he also knows how uncomfortable it is for old smokers to be without cigarettes.
Perhaps out of sympathy or out of goodwill, Gong Yuejiang found a friend of his - the correspondent responsible for guarding them. He spent 30 cents at his own expense and entrusted the other party to buy a pack of cigarettes on the street.
then handed it to the cadre, who was very grateful when he saw Gong Yuejiang, a non-smoker, stuffing himself with a pack of cigarettes.
Later, after the political review was completed, this cadre was able to leave. Before leaving, he specially called Gong Yuejiang and said: "Little brother, I told the political commissar Xie of the security area about your situation." "Kang, you can go out now and work as a guard for him."
After hearing the news, Gong Yuejiang was very surprised. This means that he has got rid of the trouble of political review and can continue to serve in the army.
Whenever he recalled this incident many years later, Gong Yuejiang was always filled with emotion, "Thanks to that pack of Dazhuang brand cigarettes, my destiny changed."
In the summer of 1972, Gong Yuejiang returned to his normal life, and the days after Here, after continuing to work as a security guard for several years, Gong Yuejiang was successfully promoted.
In 1974, Gong Yuejiang was admitted to a medical college in Shenyang, and eventually became a military doctor at the 210 Hospital of the People's Liberation Army.

In his daily work, he takes every patient seriously. For ordinary people who have no money to see a doctor, he is even willing to pay for them out of his own pocket.
Once, a soldier stationed on Hainan Island came to the hospital to see a doctor. Because he was not familiar with the place, he didn't know where to find a hotel after seeing the doctor. Gong Yuejiang saw the other party's embarrassment, so he simply took him to his own hospital. Stayed at home for several days.
As a military doctor, it is difficult to obtain military honors, but what is amazing is that Gong Yuejiang has received first-class and third-class merit in these years. These medals are the greatest affirmation of his hard work over the years.
Today, Gong Yuejiang is in his seventies and is in good health. Although he is retired, patients from all over the country still come to him for help.
