In 506 BC (the fourteenth year of King Zhou Jing), Wu Wang Helu discussed with the generals how to attack Chu State. Wu Zixu offered a plan and said: "All parts of the Chu Kingdom are heavily guarded. We can divide our troops into three groups: one army to attack Maicheng, one army to attack Nancheng, and the king leads his army directly to Yingdu. If the thunder is too fast to hide, Chu will take care of one and lose the other. If the two cities are broken, Ying will be able to break through."
Wu Wanghelu will then lead Wu Zixu to attack Maicheng of Chu State, but Maicheng has a total of 5,000 Chu State generals fighting the nest rate. Guarded by elite soldiers. When he was approaching Maicheng, Wu Zixu camped on his horse, changed his clothes and brought a few soldiers out of the camp to inspect the terrain. When I walked to a village, I saw a villager holding a donkey to grind wheat, and the villager whipped the donkey. The donkey hurried away. After Wu Zixu's observation, he thought of a wonderful way to break Maicheng.
Wu Zixu returned to the camp to pass the order: "Each soldier prepares a bag of soil and a handful of grass. Tomorrow, it will be paid at five." By the next day and five days, another order was passed, "Each cart is loaded with stones. "At dawn, Wu Zixu divided the army into two parts. One group was taken by Caihou to the east of Maicheng, and the other group was taken by Gongzigan to the west of Maicheng. After reaching the goal, they each built a small city with soil, stone, and grass according to Wu Zixu's drawings. The city on the east is narrow and long, shaped like a donkey, and is called "Donkey City"; the city on the west is round, like a stone mill, called "Mill City".
As a former Chu man, Wu Zixu understands that Chu soldiers are very superstitious. As expected, from inside Maicheng, I can see that there is a big flag with the word "Donkey City" on the East City and on the West City. With the banner of the word "Mocheng", the soldiers of Chu State rumored to each other: "Left donkey grinds right, Maicheng is broken." Chu Jiang Douchao was furious and led the troops to battle, Wu Zixu was in front of the battle. Haha laughed and said: "Listen to Chu Bing, won't the wheat be crushed in the donkey mill?"
Douchao's halberd in anger rushed towards Wu Zixu, and Wu Zixu shouted, "Death to Chu People go away." He fought the nest with a sharp sword. Douchao itself was no match for Wu Zixu and the soldiers were distracted. At the same time, Caihou and Gongzi went to the left and right armies to outflank them. Chu Bing was defeated and Wu Zixu easily won Maicheng.
