This time, the success of my country's 25-ton closed expansion engine has also narrowed the gap between us and other countries. Now, around the world, the countries that master this technology are the United States, Russia, Japan and EU , and now there is another my country.
However, in the process of research on this type of engine, even the thrust of such engines in the United States and Russia is within 10 tons. This time we reached the 25 tons level, which is a very big breakthrough. With my country's intervention in this aspect relatively late, it is still able to reach this level, which also shows that my country has certain strength in this aspect.
What exactly is the expansion cycle engine? This type of engine is a new generation of aerospace engines and is also an efficient source of power in space tourism.
In fact, its more complete name is the closed expansion cycle hydrogen and oxygen engine, because this type of engine mainly uses waste heat to convert a small amount of liquid hydrogen into high-pressure gas. This gas drives the turbofan, while increasing the pressure of hydrogen and oxygen as fuel. This way, the whole process is very efficient and does not need to carry additional gas as fuel, which will be more convenient.
However, even if this type of engine has greater advantages in the aerospace field, it is not easy to develop the entire process, especially in terms of thrust, it is very difficult to reach a greater level. Therefore, in countries like the United States, the thrust on this type of engine is not even more than 10 tons.
Fortunately, our country's scientists have adopted a new structural type, which has brought the thrust of this type of engine developed by our country to 25 tons, making the research and development of this type of engine in our country a step further.
So what are the specific advantages of this type of engine? The first point is that as a new generation of aircraft engines, it is naturally very outstanding in performance, and its power is provided very efficiently.
Since hydrogen and oxygen are used for combustion, the temperature during the reaction can directly reach 3000 degrees Celsius. In this case, after further cooling with liquid hydrogen fuel, not only the cooling effect is achieved, but also the production of high-pressure hydrogen can be further promoted under such circumstances. The efficiency achieved is very high. Under this condition, the specific impulse of this engine can reach more than 450 seconds.
At the same time, while efficiently cooling this engine, it also needs to have sufficient turbo pump driving capacity, so the overall design pipeline and flow need to be strictly controlled.
If a good design is not achieved in this regard, the entire engine may be affected by performance. However, under the engine studied in my country, its structure is simpler.
is also because the structure achieved is relatively simple, so it is relatively stable during the entire process, so that it achieves a higher degree of reliability even under a high-voltage environment.
However, although the thrust of my country's expansion engine can reach 25 tons this time is a relatively big breakthrough, under such circumstances, we also need to know that there are still some areas to continue to improve the engine. In terms of its comparison, in fact, similar engines in the United States can reach 466 seconds, so my country is still slightly behind in this regard.
Among them, my country's 25-ton expansion cycle engine uses carbon ceramic composite material, the area ratio reached is 1:160, while the United States uses carbon composite material foldable sandblasting, and the nozzle area ratio reached is 1:285, which is also the reason why they are higher than the impact.
However, although there is still a certain gap between us and the United States, this has made great progress from the previous situation where the metal nozzle area of this type of engine of my country's Long March 5 was 1:80. In fact, my country's area ratio with this aspect is expected to reach 1:260 in the future, so it can be further improved in comparison.
In addition, although my country has made a qualitative breakthrough in the adjustment range of engine thrust, which can reach 60%~100%, compared with the United States' 20%~100%, there is still a certain gap.
