Finland has a long and storied history, with snipers and legendary figures such as Simohaya. Seamus achieved an incredible kill total during the Winter War using a simple and basic rifle and excellent field skills. This tradition continues to this day, with Finland once again choosing to deviate from what might be considered the more powerful sniper rifle standard, instead opting for the Sako (Sako company ) M23, an based AR10/15 platform Designed improved rifle , using NATO 7.62×51 mm caliber bullet.

AR-15 automatic rifle
AR-15 automatic rifle was originally improved by Fairchild Armalite on the basis of the 7.62mm caliber AR-10 automatic rifle . AR-15 uses 5.56mm ammunition.
The "AR" in AR-15 comes from the English name of Armalite, not the assault rifle . Because the is the first rifle to use 5.56mm caliber, it is also known as the rifle that pioneered small-caliber.
AR-15 is designed with an air tube type automatic method and uses small-caliber ammunition to achieve accurate shooting and high bullet speed.
The modular design makes it possible to use a variety of accessories and is easy to maintain. The synthetic stock and grip are not easy to deform and break. The front sight can adjust the elevation angle. The rear sight can adjust the wind correction amount and range. A range of optics are available to accompany or replace iron sights.
Why did Finland choose a sniper rifle that is lightweight, less powerful than the mainstream, more powerful and farther?
This is because Finland is a heavily forested country with many lakes, swamps and wooded hills with only limited open space. Therefore, the demand for long-range shooting and power of sniper rifles is not so strong. Instead, sniper rifles with higher accuracy that are lightweight and easy to carry are more suitable. This is what caused so much trouble for the Soviets in the aforementioned Winter War. It's nice to see Finland choosing a rifle that suits its conditions rather than the mainstream rifles in today's world.

The M23 system includes two guns: a semi-automatic sniper rifle for use by snipers, and a precision shooting rifle for use by designated marksmen. The former is equipped with a high-quality optical sight , which fires special sniper rifle bullets and can accurately shoot targets 800 meters away. The latter is relatively simpler, with an effective range of 600 meters.
The promotional photo shows a green Steiner tactical scope on the top of the rifle. It has 90% of the optical performance of other scopes in the world, and is both strong and durable. to match the rifle. The rifle itself appears to have a Magpul ACS stock, and every photo we've seen also shows the rifle being fitted with a compact suppressor. Suppressors are also a good choice for closer enemy range. The semi-automatic functionality is also advantageous in the Finnish environment, as long as the sniper uses appropriate field techniques to ensure concealment.
The Logistics Command of the Finnish Defense Forces signed a contract with Sako Company to purchase the M23 sniper weapon system, to replace the existing Soviet Dragunov SVD and Tkiv-85 sniper rifles to improve the long-range sniper capability of its infantry.
