Recently, the US Immigration Service has issued two policies, which are very beneficial to applicants considering naturalization in the United States.
1. The expiration of the green card of a citizen applicant will be automatically extended for 24 months.
Starting from December 12, 2022, the green card validity period for U.S. citizens applying for naturalization will be extended by 24 months.
Currently, it takes about two years to apply for naturalization, so many green cards are about to expire while waiting for the review.
Once the green card expiration date is less than 6 months, you need to submit a green card extension application in advance, and then there will be another backlog of cases at the Immigration Bureau.
As time goes on, there are more and more cases and the trial time is getting longer and longer.
Therefore, after the implementation of the New Deal, the Immigration Bureau has saved a lot of unnecessary approval work and improved work efficiency.
Note: This policy does not apply to
applicants who submitted N-400 on or before December 12, 2022.

2. Standardizing the Citizenship and Naturalization Examination
The US Citizenship and Immigration Service will standardize the Citizenship and Naturalization Examination and change the 100 questions to multiple-choice questions. The
exam will be divided into reading, writing, basic citizenship exam and oral ability.
Immigration Services said in a statement that it is in compliance with Biden Executive Order 14012, "Efforts to Restore Confidence in the Lawful Immigration System and Strengthen the Integration and Inclusion of New Americans."
During the review process, it was discovered that the naturalization test depends entirely on the subjective emotions of the immigration officer to decide whether to pass. It is a purely oral test. Once the immigration officer speaks too fast, it is likely that the question cannot be heard clearly. If you cannot answer the question, you will not be able to pass the test. It is very unscientific.
Therefore, the Immigration Bureau has decided to conduct a five-month pilot in 2023, during which part of the questions may be changed to standardized multiple-choice questions, including single-choice questions or multiple-choice questions.
In this way, the immigration officer can avoid the problem of using subjective emotions to decide whether to pass the exam.
The Director of the Immigration Service said, "The naturalization test is a critical step in becoming a U.S. citizen. We will continue to improve and update the naturalization test to ensure that it is consistent with industry testing standards."
