1. After the application for outstanding talents is approved, will I get a temporary Hong Kong ID card?
No, there is no temporary ID card in Hong Kong. Hong Kong identity card is divided into two types: one is the Hong Kong resident identity card and the other is the Hong Kong permanent identity card. After being approved as an outstanding candidate, you will need to obtain a Hong Kong resident identity card. After seven years, the applicant can become a permanent resident of Hong Kong only if it can be proved that Hong Kong is his usual place of residence.
2. Can you obtain permanent residence status if you do not permanently reside in Hong Kong?
According to the Hong Kong Immigration Department, you need to "continuously ordinarily reside in Hong Kong", but it does not mean "you must live in Hong Kong". As long as you live in Hong Kong legally, voluntarily and for the purpose of settlement (such as studying, working or residence, etc.), regardless of the length of time, you will be regarded as ordinarily resident in Hong Kong by the Hong Kong Immigration Department. If you are only temporarily absent from Hong Kong, you will still be regarded as ordinarily resident in Hong Kong.
In other words, even if you have not lived in Hong Kong for a long time, when you apply to become a permanent resident of Hong Kong after seven years, if you want to prove that you have "ordinarily resided" in Hong Kong for seven consecutive years, the applicant can provide the following valid certificates: school documents, employment certificates, official receipts, bank statements, income tax returns, etc.
3. Are there any requirements for the financial ability of the applicants for Excellent Talents?
Yes, when submitting the application, you must provide proof that the applicant's family has financial resources that can not rely on public assistance from the Hong Kong government during the first year in Hong Kong. 4. The higher the academic qualifications, the greater the probability of being approved when applying for the Hong Kong Talents Scheme?
The Hong Kong Talent Approval does not define the applicant’s approval rate based on a single item. The Immigration Department needs to examine the applicant’s overall situation. Judging from the official data on the approval of outstanding talents in 2021, the proportion of approved applicants is larger with a master's degree/bachelor's degree, but this does not mean that applicants with a bachelor's degree will not have a chance.
5. After applying for permanent residence in Hong Kong, do I need to cancel my mainland household registration?

6. How long does it take for the Talent Program to be reviewed?
The application time for the Talent Program is almost 6-12 months, and you may be asked to supplement materials once or twice in the middle. The selection is announced four times a year, once a quarter.
