In recent times, incidents involving the sudden deaths of top Russian executives, business oligarchs and dissidents have occurred one after another, arousing attention and speculation from the outside world.
The latest death occurred on Christmas Day. At 8:20 a.m. on this day, Alexei Fedorovich Maslov, the former commander-in-chief of the ground forces of the Russian Armed Forces and now the special representative of the Russian Ural Vehicle Manufacturing Plant, which specializes in the production of combat tanks, died suddenly in Moscow at the age of 69. The Ural Vehicle Manufacturing Plant announced Maslov's death on the social media Telegram and said that he "remained loyal" to Russia "until the last day of his life." The cause of his death is unknown.
The day before Maslov's death, 67-year-old Alexander Buzakov also died suddenly and unexpectedly. Buzakov is the general manager of the Russian Naval Shipyard, which is considered the "foundation" of the Russian Navy and specializes in producing delivery vehicles for the Russian "Kalibr" cruise missile. Russia's United Shipbuilding Corporation announced Maslov's death but gave no cause of death or any details about where he died.
Also deceased on the same day as Buzakov was Pavel Antov, a Russian sausage tycoon and local councilor. On December 24, Antov was found dead in the eastern Indian state of Odisha. According to reports, in order to celebrate his 65th birthday, Antov and his friend Bidnov stayed at a hotel in Layegada County, Odisha. Unfortunately, on December 22, Bidnov was found lying dead in his room on the first floor of the hotel, with several empty wine bottles beside him. Two days later, news of Antov's death came. Local police in India believe that Antov fell to his death from the third floor of the hotel. In June, Antov criticized Russia's missile attack on a residential area in Kiev earlier this year that killed a man and injured his 7-year-old daughter and wife, the BBC reported. Antov said on social media, "This level can already be called terrifying." But he later deleted the message and expressed support for Putin .
Before Antov, Russian real estate tycoon Dmitry Zelenov also died earlier this month. According to the independent news channel Baza on Telegram, Zelenov died after falling down the stairs and injuring his head while visiting friends in France. Zelenov, 50, is the former owner of Russian developer Don Stroy, which built the 61-story Triumph Tower in Moscow, one of the tallest residential buildings in Europe.
It is worth mentioning that Zelenov is just one of many Russian business oligarchs who have died mysteriously in recent times. Many wealthy oligarchs have died one after another before him.
73-year-old Anatoly Gerashchenko, the former director of the Moscow Aviation Institute, died in September this year after falling from a height. 39-year-old Ivan Pecholin, general manager of the Russian energy giant Far East Development Group and Putin's appointed head of Russia's natural gas development in the Arctic, died after an accidental fall from a mobile ship off the coast of Russia. 67-year-old Ravil Maganov, chairman of the board of directors of Lukoil, Russia's second largest oil group, died mysteriously after falling from a sixth-floor window of a Moscow hospital.
