According to Yonhap News Agency , on December 11 local time, the South Korean parliament passed a bill to revoke the post of Minister of Executive Security Lee Xiangmin. The proposal aims to hold Li Xiangmin responsible for the stampede in Itaewon.
On the evening of October 29, a serious stampede occurred in the Halloween celebration in Itaewondong, Yongsan District, Seoul, South Korea, killing at least 158 people and injuring hundreds of people so far.
In response, South Korean public opinion criticized the government departments for their poor response and the police responded slowly. South Korea's largest opposition party, the Common Democratic Party, has spoken out many times, demanding that Lee Xiangmin take responsibility for the accident and urged President Yoon Seok-yeon to remove him from his post.

On November 30, Comprehensive Democratic Party officially submitted a motion to remove Li Xiangmin from his post.
At today's plenary session of South Korea's parliament, members of the ruling National Power Party opposed the bill to remove their posts and collectively withdrew before the vote. This means that only opposition lawmakers such as the Common Democratic Party participated in the vote. In the end, the proposal was passed with 182 votes in favor and 1 vote was invalid.
This is the eighth time that South Korea's previous parliament has passed a proposal to revoke its position as a State Councilor, and it is also the second time since the establishment of the Yoon Seok-yeo government. In September this year, Congress passed a bill to remove Foreign Minister Park Jin.
Yonhap News Agency analyzed that since the National Power Party strongly opposes the opposition party's separate handling of the bill, and Yoon Seo-yeol has not accepted the bill for the removal of the foreign minister submitted by Congress, this bill may also be unacceptable, and South Korea's political situation may fall into a freezing point in the future.
It is predicted that Yoon Seo-yeol may clarify his unacceptable position after receiving a proposal submitted by Congress to remove Li Xiangmin from his post. A senior official from the President's Office said in a telephone interview with Yonhap News Agency that Yon Seo-yeol believes that the removal proposal led by the joint Democratic Party is contrary to the government's efforts to find out the truth about the Itaewon accident, and this position has not changed.
