Shabaz wrote, "I condemn the shooting of the Chairman of the Justice Movement Party Imran Khan with the strongest words. I have directed the Minister of Home Affairs to report immediately on the incident. I pray for the recovery and health of the Chairman of the Justice Movement Party and other injured people. The federal government will provide the Punjab government with all the support needed for security and investigation. Violence should not occupy a place in the politics of our country."

Earlier that day, according to the Pakistani Dawn, former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan was shot in Wazilabad, Punjab Province. Several members of the Pakistan Justice Movement Party (PTI) where Imran Khan is located revealed that Imran Khan suffered a leg injury in the attack, but his injuries were not serious.
