The number of people increased by 4,016 from last year, an increase of 52 consecutive years. Among them, the number of women is 80,161 million, accounting for about 89% of the total.
According to the Nihon Keizai Shimbun, according to the division of prefectures, the number of elderly people over 100 years old in Shimane Prefecture has remained the largest for 10 consecutive years, that is, there are about 142 elderly people over 100,000 people; followed by Kochi Prefecture and Tottori Prefecture; and Saitama Prefecture has the lowest number of elderly people over 100,000.
It is reported that the oldest in Japan is a woman living in Osaka Prefecture, 115 years old, and the oldest male is an 111-year-old man living in Hiroshima Prefecture.
In addition, according to data from the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, the average life expectancy of Japanese people in 2021 is 87.57 years for women and 81.47 years for men.
