In Europe, the most popular Ukrainian refugees may be those children of school age.

Ukrainian mathematics, physics and chemistry education under the Soviet system is more than one level higher than Europe.

As a result, Ukrainian refugee children were arranged to enter local schools not long after they started to do questions for European classmates.

. For the adult world, this statement is also popular internationally - the best university in the world should be "a American school, Chinese students, Soviet/Russian professors."

To this day, Russia has been much weaker in many aspects than the Soviet era, but it is still a very powerful existence in the field of mathematics, physics and chemistry education.

For example, nearly half of the American mathematicians invited by in 2014 International Mathematicians Conference are related to Russia and the former Soviet Union.

Russian higher education institutions and research institutes may not be as famous as some Western institutions (this reason is very complicated), but their actual scientific research and academic abilities are indeed quite powerful.

Moreover, many famous universities in China, especially those in industry, can almost find corresponding schools in today's Russia.

In contrast, there are almost no such industry-class institutions in the West.

For example,

Beijing Printing College —Moscow State Printing University;
Beijing Sports University Moscow State Sports University ;
Beijing Chemical Technology University —Mendelev Chemical Technology University;
China University of Mining and Technology —St. Petersburg State University of Mining and Technology (formerly Leningrad National University of Mining and Technology);
China University of Geosciences—Russia National Geological Exploration University ;

North China Electric Power University Moscow Institute of Dynamics HTML;
China University of Geosciences—Russia National Geological Exploration University ;

Beijing University of Architecture —Moscow State University of Architecture;
Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics Moscow Aeronautics College ;
Beijing University of Forestry —St. Petersburg State University of Forestry (formerly Leningrad National Forestry University)

In fact, the emphasis on mathematics, physics and chemistry is not only in the Soviet Union's educational policy. As early as the era of Tsarist Russian , when Peter the Great was carried out in the reform at the end of the 17th century, there was a hard rule that children of aristocratic children must learn arithmetics and science, as well as a foreign language, otherwise they will deprive all their privileges.

Peter the Great's successors are also continuously introducing a large number of scientific research talents from Western Europe , including the Bozi brothers, Oula, etc., who we are very familiar with now. For example, in 1760, Euler was robbed by Russian troops on his German farm. After the Russian general who was in charge of the war at that time learned about the other party's identity as a mathematician, he took the initiative to come to the door to apologize and give Euler a compensation that is far greater than the actual losses.

Not long after, the Russian Empress Elizabeth (the second daughter of Peter the Great, also a very powerful monarch) heard that Euler suffered losses in the war, and actually gave him a very considerable amount of money and wrote a letter in person to invite Euler to live in Petersburg .

Queen Elizabeth in the Russian drama "Catherina II", a very oppressive woman

At that time, Euler at that time tactfully refused considering the cold weather in Russia.

Six years later, in 1766, Empress Elizabeth's nephew's wife, Caterina II, Empress of the Russian Empire, once again warmly invited Euler to Petersburg.

This time, Euler accepted the invitation.

In Petersburg, Russia received their family of 19 in the specifications of royal aristocrats.

Queen Ekaterina gave away a free villa with full furniture in Ora and sent her own imperial chef to take care of their family's diet.

Later, Euler lived and worked in Russia until his death.

Of course, in addition to the principle of promoting the country through science and education, the rulers of Tsarist Russia often also have the element of "showing" - they want to spend money to support fame, or they like to "collect" scientific celebrities and artists like "collecting cards".

But no matter what their original intention is, the returns these "investments" bring to future generations are quite valuable.

I won’t say much about the particularly boring text, let’s tell you two short stories below.

The first story.

1958 Nobel Prize winner in Physics , former Soviet physicist, winner of the Socialist Medal of Labor, Igor Tam , the experience of escaping death through "doing questions".

Igor Tam (July 8, 1895 - April 12, 1971)

Igor Tam was born in Vladivostok in the Far East. In this harbour region where the Tsarist Russian Empire had just been snatched from the Qing Dynasty, Tam received good middle-class education and was admitted to the physics major of Moscow State University more than 9,000 kilometers away.

Tam stays at school to teach after graduation. Not long after, because of the outstanding scientific research results, Tam, who was less than 30 years old, was poached by Odessa University as a professional talent and had a high salary.

However, not long after he arrived in Ukraine, the February Revolution and the October Revolution broke out one after another, and there was a scene of chaos everywhere.

At that time, Odessa happened to be the main area where Red Army and the White Bandits Army competed.

In the chaotic times, the city was short of supplies and Tam couldn't stand it hungry, so he took a few silver spoons and ventured to the countryside to try to find local farmers to exchange for some animal products.

Unfortunately, he encountered a group of white bandits who suddenly rushed in in the yard of a farmer.

This white bandit is the subordinate of the Makhno bandits in "How is Steel made of " and " Quiet Don River ".

00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

So, several people rushed forward, arrested Tam, and directly arrested him in front of the gang leader for interrogation.

The "boss" of the gangster is full of beard, with grenade on his waist, and a bullet belt hanging on his chest, looking fierce and evil.

"Boss" walked up to Tam and shouted: Do you want to subvert our Ukrainian motherland? Whoever sent you here or don't confess it well will be dead!

Tam hurriedly defended: You misunderstood, I have nothing to do with the Red Army. I am a poor professor at Odessa University. I am so hungry that I come here just to get some food.

Tam wanted to continue to defend himself, but was rudely interrupted by the bandit leader: How old are you, and you still dare to claim to be a university professor? Which professor are you? What can you teach like this?

Tam quickly said: I am a physics professor and also teach theoretical mathematics.

Unexpectedly, the bandit boss immediately became interested, glanced at him, pondered for a while and said - do you take McLaurin series to the nth term, and calculate how big the error will be generated?

Then I added another sentence, if you can't do it, I will kill you directly!

Tam couldn't believe his ears. You know, McLaughlin's series is a advanced problem in a very specialized branch of Advanced Mathematics , and it actually came out of the mouth of a bandit leader who killed people without blinking!

Just like that, Tam was held down by the bandit's gun, and began to "do the questions" tremble, and then handed them over to the bandit leader for a look.

The bandit leader looked at the answer, smiled and said: You guy has answered correctly, it seems that you are really a professor, go home.

Just like that, Tam successfully saved his life by "doing questions", and there was also a Nobel Prize winner in the world.

The above story comes from the memoir of Igor Tam, who once wrote: No one knows who the bandit leader is. But if this person did not die on the battlefield, he might be able to teach advanced mathematics in a university in Ukraine in the future.

The second story.

Although there were many talents in the Tsarist Russian era and had achieved brilliant achievements in the fields of culture, art and science, the education at that time was distinctively hierarchical, class-oriented, and religious, and was only aimed at the wealthy population and various privileged classes.

When I fought, , the Tsarist Russian Army, which was ridiculed as a "gray animal", had an illiterate proportion of more than 60%. It was the highest proportion of illiterate among the participating countries, and even slightly higher than the Ottoman Turkish army of the "Sick Man of West Asia".

Therefore, from the day the Soviet Union was born, we have been working hard to literate and develop education for all.

Early Soviet Army Literacy Poster

After all, to consolidate the regime, industrialization must be achieved quickly, and this cannot be separated from the talent support of high-quality technical workers and scientific and technological personnel. Otherwise, no matter how large the population is, it will not be a wealth, it is more like a burden.

In the early 1920s, the literacy rate of in the Soviet Union was only about 20%.

By the end of the 1970s, the literacy rate of Soviets under 50 had reached 100%.

1970s Soviet college student

World weightlifting champion Mikhail Coklyayev was born in this era (born in 1978).

When he was in middle school, he happened to catch up with the most chaotic and difficult stage in Russia after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

At that time, he was wearing fake Adi and followed a group of "brothers" to start "interfering in society".

When recalling why I chose to practice weightlifting, Coklyayev said this - once we got into some trouble, the police came to my house, which made my family very nervous.

So my brother suggested: Since you are energetic and have nowhere to vent, then go with me to practice weightlifting. In this way, I followed him to the gym. Since then, not only has I become stronger, but my academic performance has also improved. I have all got A grades when I graduated from high school. "

mkhail Cokliyaev

The reporter asked-"What trouble did you get at that time?" ”

Coklyayev replied-"My brothers and I broke into a library and everyone moved many books home. "

The third one, I won't write more texts, look at the picture below.

says that the Soviet Union/Russians can queue up especially, but in fact, they are sometimes not buying daily necessities, digital trendy products, or eating McDonald's , or going to government agencies to handle business...but to - appreciate art.

This photo is in 2016, when Russians line up in the snow and ice Waiting to enter the gallery to enjoy the authentic "Girls and Peaches".

is this famous painting "Girls and Peaches" by Selov .

In addition, music, not to mention Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky, Shostakovic , Prokofiev , Rimsky Korsakov, etc.

plus a large group of literature, and casually sort it out, it is a long list of names...

I have to admit that in the blood of the fighting nation, not only vodka flows, but also mathematics, physics, chemistry, literature and art flows.
