On September 28th local time, the Swedish Daily quoted the official website of the Swedish Coast Guard that there is still a leak point on the "North Stream" pipeline damaged in the Baltic Sea, which also means that the leakage points of the " North Stream-1" natural gas pipeline and the " North Stream-2" natural gas pipeline have risen to 4.
German security authorities say the three damaged pipes will likely no longer be put into use. German media quoted government insiders as saying that if the loophole cannot be fixed in time, a large amount of seawater will pour into and corrode the pipeline, causing irreparable damage to the pipeline. The crisis team of the German Federal Foreign Ministry has also launched an investigation, and the Prime Minister's Office and several federal ministries are also discussing the consequences of the matter.
After the leak, the German federal police are strengthening control over German territorial waters and monitoring critical infrastructure more closely. In addition, federal states have also strengthened protection of North Sea and Baltic coastal areas. The liquefied natural gas receiving terminals and submarine and telecommunications cables that are currently under construction are all key protection targets.
"Beixi-1" and "Beixi-2" natural gas pipelines are each composed of two pipelines. The "North Stream-1" natural gas pipeline was completed in 2011 and leads to Germany via the Baltic Seabed. It was Russia's main gas pipeline to Europe before the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. After the "Beixi-2" pipeline was completed in 2021, it has not been put into use.
