The British "Mirror" reported on February 12 that Robyn Peoples, 26, and Sharni Edwards, 27, got married in Antrim on Tuesday. The marriage law in Rim County has undergone major changes last month. The couple
decided to get married on the 6th anniversary of their love. They had already set the date of their marriage and planned to establish a civil partnership before the Westminster MPs supported the new bill last year.
The new Northern Ireland marriage law was formally amended on January 13, but the couple must register their marriage at least 28 days in advance, so the first wedding can only be held this week. Before the wedding, Robin, a paramedic from Belfast, said that the couple sent a message to the world that "we are equal."
Robyn Peoples, 26, said, "Our love is personal, but the law states that we cannot get married is political. We are very happy with our wedding, we can now say that those days are over."
She said, “Although this wedding ended with Shani Edwards saying'I do' to me, it started when people said'no' to inequality. We stood together and made history.”
Shani Edwards is from Brighton. Before she moved from England to Belfast, she didn't even know that the laws of Northern Ireland were different.
She said, "We are not making history, we just love each other. We are very grateful to the thousands of people who have fought for our rights... Without you, our wedding would not be possible, and we will always be grateful. ”Z1z
