According to informburo.kz, on the 14th, Rahmon said in his speech at the Central Asia-Russian Leaders' Summit held in Astana that the country hopes to feel the corresponding respect.
"We witnessed the disintegration of the Soviet Union together. Also like now, we witnessed the fact that there is no focus on the facts of the republics and ethnic groups, without taking into account their traditions and customs, and not supporting their development... Yesterday you talked about 2 million labor immigration from Tajikistan to the Russian Federation. I want to tell you that we have more than 2 million citizens going to the Russian Federation not only to make money, they are also studying and receiving treatment in Russia." Rahmon said at the summit.
According to him, Russia develops trade cooperation, but does not show an equal attitude.
Rahmon and Putin said that Moscow did not comply with the request of the Russian minister to attend the Tajikistan Forum, and only one Russian deputy minister came.
"Why, not long ago, on a forum in Tajikistan, we requested that I have instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and I have even talked to you to attend at least the ministerial level, but the person who came was the deputy minister. Tajikistan needs a strategic partner, but we also want to be respected. Did we break something where we did, or was there something wrong with our way of greetings?" Rahmon said.
Rahmon said that Dushanbe respects the interests of its main strategic partner Russia and hopes that the Russian Federation will hold the same attitude.
"Vladimir Vladimirovic, I ask you not to adopt any policy towards Central Asian countries like the Soviet Union," said Rahmon.
Tajikistan President stressed that every country has its own problems, traditions and customs.
It is reported that the "Tajikistan-Russia" International Investment Forum was held in Dushanbe on September 15. Russian Deputy Minister of Economic Development Dmitry Wolvac attended the forum on behalf of the Russian side.
