Gu Yuyou has served as deputy director and director of Heilongjiang Province Hulin Satellite Grain Depot and deputy director and director of the Grain Bureau of Hulin City, Heilongjiang Province.
In 2003, he served as deputy secretary and director of the Party Committee of the Harbin Direct Deposit of the Central Grain Reserve. In January 2009, he served as a member of the Party Leadership Group and deputy general manager of the Heilongjiang Branch of China Grain Reserve Management Corporation.
In October 2013, Gu Yuyou was appointed as the Party Secretary and General Manager of Shanxi Branch of China Grain Reserve Management Corporation.
In February 2017, he took office as the Party Secretary and Chairman of China Reserve Cotton Management Corporation and retired in September 2018.
Public information shows that China Cotton Reserve Management Corporation (hereinafter referred to as China Cotton Reserve Company) is a policy-based central enterprise that manages the state cotton reserves. He is also the first grain-related cadre to be established after the closing of the Plenary Session of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection. officially disclosed that Xu Baoyi "made up his resume" and this wording was the first time that he had appeared in the "tiger" punishment notice.
