On the morning of June 28, local time, a shooting incident occurred at a bank in British Columbia, Canada, and a fierce exchange of fire broke out between armed men and the police. Six police officers were hospitalized with gunshot wounds, and two suspects were shot dead on the spot.

According to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, multiple officers from the Saanich Police Service, Victoria Police and the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team (GVERT), according to a joint statement from Saanich and Victoria Police. At around 11 a.m. that day, a call was received from a bank in the Shelbourne neighborhood, reporting that there was an attack by armed gunmen. When police arrived, two armed suspects began shooting at officers, who immediately returned fire. During the shootout, two suspects were shot dead on the spot by the police.

Saanich Police Chief Dean Ducey said that three of the six police officers injured by gunfire were members of the Saanich Police Department and the other three were members of the Victoria Police Department. He said: "Some police officers will be discharged after emergency treatment, while other police officers are seriously injured and have undergone surgery and will continue to stay in the hospital for observation."
Around 1:30 pm, the police asked residents in the area to take shelter at home because Police are searching for a possible third suspect and inspected a car linked to one of the suspects, finding an explosive device inside.
Around 6 p.m., police lifted the shelter-in-place order and said there was no further indication that a third suspect was involved in the incident. However, the area remained closed to traffic that evening as police continued to search for potential explosives.

Saanich's police chief said the shooting was the most violent incident he has experienced in his nearly 27-year career.
