According to Colm Coyle, MD of RioIT and the designer of the unit, the company needed to find a cable that could be plugged into the existing ductwork (originally built to support CCTV cameras) and that could be reasonably To adapt to the future, approximately 500 individual optical fibers need to be squeezed into a 16 mm diameter pipe (in reality there is only 9-11 mm of available space inside the pipe).
