In October 2019, the Governor of California passed a new bill that will postpone classes in some public schools. The new law requires that junior high school classes cannot be earlier than eight o'clock in the morning, and high school classes cannot be earlier than eight thirty in the morning. The new school hours will take effect from the 2022-2023 school year, or when the school’s collective bargaining agreement with employees ends.
The bill was opposed by some school officials. They believe that delaying school hours will have an impact on some working families. An analysis in July found that in order to comply with the law, about half of the state’s public schools had to postpone classes by 30 minutes. A previous study showed that compared with evening classes, students’ academic performance, attendance rate and overall health status are associated with improvements.
The CDC survey found that the average US CDC has 3 million junior high school students Class time is 8:07 in the morning, and students in some states are required to attend class before 7:30. There are supporters and oppositions to the new law. Those who support the new law are all California students. They say that delaying school attendance will make students happier and less stressful.
Seeing their new bill, many Chinese netizens are crying, I think the students in California are too happy. If any elementary school student to high school student in China dares to go to class at 8:30, it would be daring.
