Prevention and control of termites in Shuungengshan Wetland Park in Huainan City - DayDayNews

Huainan Net News (Reporter Liao Lingyun) As the saying goes, "a thousand-mile embankment collapses in an ant's nest", and termites, as a very harmful pest, can erode trees, houses, and furniture silently. destructive. On the afternoon of May 7, a huge ant nest in the woods of Shungeng Mountain Wetland Park in Huainan City was successfully removed by termite control personnel, and a king ant and two queen ants were captured.

On the afternoon of the same day, the reporter saw the three termites kept in the wine bottle. The queen ant is about 1 cm long, thin and brown in shape; one queen is longer, about 6 cm, and the other is shorter, about 3 cm, and the two queens are plump and white. According to Meng Feng, deputy director of Shungeng Mountain Management Office, they recently found that some trees were seriously eaten by termites in the wetland park woods, so they organized a professional termite control company to carry out termite control work.

It is understood that termites have a wide range of food habits and like to feed on substances rich in fiber and lignin. They are the enemy of buildings, rivers, dams and trees. The termite breeding period is from April to June every year, and the outbreak period is from September to November. These two periods are focused on termite control, which can effectively achieve the purpose of control.

At the termite control site in the wetland park, the staff dug up more than 10 termite nests after tracking and excavation, one of which was a larger ant nest dug out in Huainan in recent years. Reporters from Huaihe Morning Post and Huainan.com saw that the operators dug a sloping tunnel about 5 meters long and 2 meters deep at the deepest point. At the end of the tunnel was a huge mushroom-shaped ant nest built by termites. As the operators transported pieces of broken ant nests to the ground, a king and two queens were also "captured". Statistics show that the lifespan of the queen ant and queen ant can reach 150 years, and each queen ant can lay 2,000 eggs per day.The erosion of termites on trees can be said to be devastating. For example, a tree that has been eroded by termites on the site looks like the bark has fallen off, but in fact, the inside of the tree has been eaten hollow. According to the staff, a large ant nest like this can harm trees within 1 km in diameter.

For the prevention and control of termites, the methods of killing and digging nests are mainly used on site. The staff first digs out the ant nest, catches the queen ants, and then removes all the ant nests, and then sprays and kills the ants. It is understood that the drugs used are harmless to the human body and do not pollute the environment.
