On January 2, 2019, the Party Central Committee solemnly held a commemoration meeting for the 40th anniversary of the publication of the "Message to Compatriots in Taiwan". General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President of the State, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission Xi Jinping delivered an important speech entitled "Fighting together to realize the great rejuvenation of the nation and promote the peaceful reunification of the motherland." This programmatic speech comprehensively elaborates on the major policy propositions for promoting the peaceful reunification of the motherland in the great journey of national rejuvenation. It is of epoch-making significance and is the fundamental guideline and action guide for Taiwan work in the new era.
General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech aroused strong responses from all walks of life on the island and had a significant and far-reaching impact on the development of cross-strait relations. 2019 is the first year to implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech. This year, the situation in the Taiwan Strait has been complex and severe. The DPP authorities deliberately undermined cross-strait relations. The "Taiwan independence" forces frequently created troubles, and external forces played the "Taiwan card", and faced many risks and challenges in Taiwan's work. Under the strong leadership of the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core, we adhere to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and guide the overall situation of Taiwan work by fully implementing General Secretary Xi Jinping’s major policies and propositions to Taiwan, solidly promote the peaceful development of cross-strait relations, firmly promote the process of peaceful reunification of the motherland, effectively respond to risks and challenges, forge ahead in Taiwan work, overcome difficulties, and make a series of new progress. Practice has proved that with the joint efforts of compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, the trend of the times for the development of cross-strait relations is unstoppable by anyone or any force. Looking back on the past year, General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech leads the work on Taiwan, it is of great significance to us to further study and understand, fully implement the spirit of the important speech and the central government’s policies and decisions and deployments to Taiwan, and to do a good job in Taiwan in the new era more solidly and effectively.

The 11th Straits Forum participated in more than 10,000 Taiwanese compatriots. More than 1,300 operators from both sides of the Taiwan Straits attended the 2019 Purple Mountain Summit, with fruitful results. More and more compatriots on the island realize that Taiwan’s future lies in the peaceful development of cross-strait relations, in national reunification, and the welfare of Taiwanese compatriots lies in the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. The mainland of the motherland continues to develop and progress, the prospects for the great rejuvenation of the nation are brighter, and the general trend of cross-strait reunification is clearer. The vast majority of Taiwanese compatriots have shown with their actions that they will certainly not be absent in the process of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. A strong country, national rejuvenation, and cross-strait reunification are unstoppable historical trends. Only when cross-strait relations are good can Taiwanese compatriots be good and Taiwan has a future.

"Peaceful reunification, one country, two systems" is the best way to achieve national reunification. The proposal of "one country, two systems" was originally intended to take care of the actual situation in Taiwan and safeguard the interests and well-being of Taiwanese compatriots. The DPP authorities have implemented counter-information such as "de-Sinicization", distorting "one country, two systems", escalating cross-strait confrontation, obstructing and undermining cross-strait exchanges and cooperation, which are becoming increasingly unpopular on the island. The DPP authorities' attempts to squeeze into the WHO, the ICAO, and the Interpol have suffered repeated setbacks, and the international community's one-China pattern has been further consolidated. The Solomon Islands and Kiribati made the correct decision to establish/reopen diplomatic relations with us, and Taiwan’s so-called “diplomatic diplomatic countries” fell to a record low. Our international "circle of friends" is getting bigger and bigger, and the separatist forces of "Taiwan independence" are hitting walls everywhere, and the road is over.
The vast majority of Taiwanese compatriots are more aware that "Taiwan independence" seriously endangers the peaceful development of cross-strait relations and seriously damages the vital interests of Taiwanese compatriots. It is a dead end and a dead end that cannot be done. Relevant political parties and people from all walks of life on the island have actively participated in the tide of joint opposition between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait against "Taiwan independence", maintaining peaceful development, promoting exchanges and cooperation, and enhancing spiritual harmony. Over the past year, we have thoroughly implemented the people-centered development philosophy, treated Taiwan compatriots equally, benefited Taiwan compatriots like serving the people of the mainland, continued to promote cross-strait exchanges and cooperation, deepened integrated development, safeguarded the welfare of Taiwan compatriots, and continuously enriched and improved relevant institutional arrangements and policy measures. Implement the "31 Measures" and measures to serve Taiwanese compatriots in the judicial field, and introduce "26 Measures" with higher gold content and wider benefits.Policy measures have been introduced to open up Taiwanese residents to participate in social insurance in the mainland and improve the convenience of application of residence permits. The cross-strait youth entrepreneurship base recruits more than 12,000 Taiwanese youths who have internships, employment and entrepreneurship. Relevant enterprises provide more than 1,900 internship positions to Taiwanese students. The sense of gain of Taiwanese compatriots coming to work, study and life in mainland China continues to improve, and Taiwanese youth have reaped fruits in letting their dreams fly.
We have made positive efforts to build a common cross-strait market and promote cross-strait connectivity. Fujian coastal areas have steadily promoted the "small four links" with Kinmen and Mazu. New progress has been made in the common integration of industry standards between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait. The vast majority of Taiwanese businessmen and enterprises actively participate in major development strategies of the motherland and have broader development prospects.
The vast majority of Taiwanese compatriots are more impressed by the continuous deepening of cross-strait integration and development and the continuous expansion of measures to benefit Taiwan and the people. They feel that the integration and development of cross-straits will go deeper and more practical, and will benefit more, have a greater sense of gain, and have a deeper family affection for compatriots.
