Speaking of the motorcycle chain, I believe many car owners are still in a state of being half-knowing about it, believing that as long as the car can ride normally, the chain will be fine.

In fact, the good or bad chain condition has a huge impact on the owner's riding safety and riding experience. There are many chains on the market, and how to distinguish the general categories of chains will undoubtedly be confused for beginners. Even veteran drivers may have some wrong ideas without knowing them.

Therefore, it is necessary to re-understand the knowledge of the chain.

chains are classified

Common chains on the market can be divided into oil seal chains and non-oil seal chains. The so-called oil seal chain means that there is an oil seal in the middle of the inner and outer chain plates (as shown in the red circle in the picture), and the lubricating oil is wrapped in the middle to achieve the lubricating state of the chain. If there is no such oil seal, it is called a non-oil seal chain.

In terms of maintenance and durability, the oil seal chain has a longer maintenance cycle and better durability. At the same time, the torque bearing of the oil seal chain and the tensile strength of the are higher, so it is wider and heavier than the non-oil seal chain. However, the non-oil seal chain is relatively advantageous in terms of price, and the maintenance process is relatively simple.

Take the oil seal chain as an example. It can be roughly divided into six major structures: inner chain plate, outer chain plate, pin, bushing, roller, oil seal, etc.

In the manufacturing of chains, the accuracy and wear resistance of pins and bushings are very important links. Usually the chain we talk about is lengthened, mainly from the wear of the pins and bushings.

Don’t underestimate this little difference. For a 100-section chain, as long as each section is lengthened by 0.1mm, the 100 sections will become one centimeter longer. Moreover, when the chain starts to wear, its wear speed will quickly get faster, so be especially careful.

Regarding the chain pin, in addition to the high processing accuracy, it must also be a normal cylinder to maintain a fixed gap with the bushing and reduce unnecessary wear. In addition, the outer layer of the pin must be coated with chromium carbide to increase rigidity and hardness to reduce wear.

. Metals that are too hard are prone to become brittle. The center must be heat-treated to keep the center flexible.

How to choose a chain

First of all, you need to pay attention to the specifications of the chain, figure out which chain models are suitable for your car, such as 428, 520, 525 or 530, and then decide on the level of the chain to choose. The original chain factory will indicate the appropriate exhaust level for each chain.

Take Japan's DID chain as an example. The oil seal chains generally used have two levels, namely ZVM-X and VX (VX2). The non-oil seal chains commonly used have two levels, D series or high-quality NZ series. Of course, non-oil seal chains and oil seal chains also have track-specific styles ERZ / ERT3 / ERV3.

Then choose the color. DID oil seal chains have three colors, namely gold, platinum, and iron gray. DID non-oil seal chains are available in gold and iron gray.

How to clean the chain

First of all, you must understand that cleaning and maintenance are not the same thing.

The most feared chain is stuck and requires great effort to release. After being loosened in this way, the chain will not run smoothly, the engine's power will be consumed on the rotating chain, and may even cause the chain to fall off, so the normal cleaning of the chain is particularly important.

Before starting cleaning, remember to prepare an oil basin under the chain. Do not let the oily chains come into contact with the ground directly, causing environmental pollution. Most friends would recommend using kerosene to clean the chain, which is also quite effective.

If it is a non-oil seal chain, you can use kerosene to clean it without any problem. If it is an oil seal chain, it is not recommended to clean it with kerosene. The reason is that kerosene may cause the elasticity of the oil seal to deteriorate, causing the oil seal to age faster, causing the lubricating oil in the bushing to lose the lubricating effect, and also reduce the life of the oil seal chain.

In addition, acidic substances can seriously damage the chain and are absolutely forbidden. The more recommended method is to buy the original chain cleaner to spray, which will have better effect.

When cleaning with chain cleaner, remember to opposite directions of the chain to avoid accidents of clamping hands.

chains should be maintained

According to relevant information, every cycling of 500 kilometers or after driving on rainy days, oil must be applied to the chain. Then, after applying oil twice, clean it again. The main lubricating part of oiling on

is the oil seal, which allows the oil seal to maintain elasticity and lubricity between the bushing and the rotor.

As for what oil to apply, it is usually recommended to purchase a special chain maintenance oil. General chain maintenance oils are divided into three types according to their state: dry type, wet type and wax type.

Summary

Oil seal chain and non-oil seal chain have their own advantages and disadvantages. Which one to buy depends on your own needs, and the oil seal chain is not a quality responsibility. Secondly, you must choose a chain that meets your model, see the specifications of the chain before purchasing. In order to ensure the service life of the chain, it is an indispensable step to carry out corresponding cleaning and maintenance.
