died in Shanghai at the age of 101
Following Mr. Ding Guangsheng's last wish, the body was donated, and the matter was simple, and no farewell ceremony was held.
He is committed to the research of cardiovascular drugs and antischistosomiasis drugs. As the antidote dimercapric acid developed by the main researcher, it is the first new Chinese drug copied in the United States; 64 years ago, he even tried the medicine with his own hands.
He founded the " Chinese Pharmacology Journal " in his sixties and won the highest honor for the Chinese publishing worker "Taofen Publishing Award".
Test medicine in person
In 1946, Ding Guangsheng passed the national unified public study abroad examination and went to the United States to study clinical anesthesiology. He is the first generation of clinical anesthesiologist in China. In June 1950, he received his PhD in Pharmacy from the University of Chicago. At the same time, he also worked as a clinician in the Department of Surgery at the University of Chicago School of Medicine, a rare occurrence among Chinese scholars at that time.

Shanghai Institute of Pharmacy From the establishment of the institute in 1932 to the early 1950s, there has been a lack of pharmacological research. It was at this time that Ding Guangsheng came to the Shanghai Institute of Pharmaceuticals. Pharmacology experiments are inseparable from animals. At that time, the country was short of supplies, so he converted the warehouse into an animal house. It was cold and the cement was not easy to dry, so he guarded the charcoal stove to dry it and slept in the animal room under construction at night.
In the 1950s, schistosomiasis was mainly treated with antimony agents, but antimony agents would have great toxic side effects. Under the difficult times, Ding Guangsheng began to study the antidote for antimony poisoning. In March 1957, he collaborated with Liang Youyi, Xie Yuyuan and and others to study an innovative drug with detoxification efficacy - sodium mercaptosuccinate.

How effective this drug is needs to be verified through clinical trials. Ding Guangsheng tried the medicine with his body and became the first person to inject this medicine intravenously. Later clinical results showed that the drug not only can relieve the poison of antimony agents, but also can relieve the poison of many heavy metals, such as lead poisoning , mercury poisoning , and even arsenic poisoning . Based on this drug, Ding Guangsheng and others conducted systematic pharmacological research on oral dimercapric acid. It is low toxicity and easy to absorb, and has obvious efficacy in the treatment of various metal poisoning.
1991, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration officially approved dimercapric acid for lead poisoning in children. This is the first time that a chemical drug developed in my country has been approved for imitation by the United States.
Did not hesitate to give up his beloved scientific research work
In 1980, Ding Guangsheng, who was in his sixties, founded the Journal of Chinese Pharmacology and served as editor-in-chief. "Mr. Ding did not hesitate to give up his beloved scientific research work, which is very amazing." said Ding Jian, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
Although it was a Chinese journal at the beginning, he insisted that the paper should be accompanied by an English abstract, and later required that the charts and legends should also be in English, so that foreigners can understand the main scientific research data. Just five years after its founding, the Journal of Pharmacology of China was included in the scientific citation index SCI of the American Institute of Science and Technology Information. It is one of the few Chinese journals included in the SCI in the early days.
Chinese Academy of Sciences Academician Chen Kaixian I still remember that many years ago when I was a director, I mentioned in a speech that all the papers were published in international authoritative journals. At that time, Ding Guangsheng raised "oppositions". He believed that good papers cannot be published only in foreign journals.
As long as I heard that someone was going abroad, Ding Guangsheng would send a few copies of the "Journal of Chinese Pharmacology" and ask them to take them abroad for exchange.
"It's hard for us to see dad in the morning"
"It's hard for us to see dad in the morning because he went to work at the unit at four or five o'clock and always entered the door with the canteen staff." Ding Minle, son of Ding Guangsheng, said that his father felt that no one would disturb this whole period of time and the work efficiency was the highest. In order to save time, Ding Guangsheng often bought lunch together in the morning.
"Mr. Ding is very easy-going."Li Xiaoyu, a researcher at the Shanghai Institute of Pharmaceuticals, said that early in the first and first morning on the New Year, he would knock on the door to wish my colleagues a happy New Year. Later, when his eyes were not good, he changed to a phone call to pay New Year's greetings. He didn't greet him much, and hung up the phone when he said a New Year's greeting.
In 2019, Ding Guangsheng was awarded the "Morning to Celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China", and took a photo in the editorial department of the Chinese Pharmacology Journal
"When I walked out of Luohu Railway Station with two heavy boxes and saw the five-star red flag for the first time, I couldn't help but burst into tears. "This is the text written by Ding Guangsheng in 1950. At that time, he refused the work invitations from many well-known American institutions, sailed in the Pacific for half a month, and arrived in Hong Kong. Under the surveillance of British military and police, he changed to Kowloon and changed to Luohu .
From then on, he never thought of leaving his motherland. Although Mr.
, he was always the Ding Guangsheng who was riding a 28-inch bicycle, cross-body bag, and came to work at four or five in the morning.
, Mr. Ding, go all the way!
