Taiwan is our treasure island and an integral part of us. Today's Taiwan leaves us more of an "little happiness" of full flowers and full moons, and various literary works also portray Taiwanese society very purely and beautifully. But if we look at a group from an objective perspective, we will find that the psychology of a large group is far less simple. When Japan ruled Taiwan, it once asserted that Taiwanese people were "greedy for money, fear of death, and loved face" and were a vulnerable group that could be divided and disintegrated. If we look at it from a longer historical perspective, Taiwan has a more dark and obscure side. This ethnic group still retains the original gene of fighting spirit, and the seeds of strong folk customs have been buried deep in their hearts. Once they encounter the right opportunity, they will cause trouble and take the opportunity to cause trouble. Some of the methods are even more bloody and cruel, and they cannot bear to see them. Let’s talk about the specific situation slowly.
Taiwan’s high mountain compatriots
Fierce and aggressive Taiwanese indigenous
The civil affairs chief Shinhei Goto, the fourth Japanese governor to Taiwan, has explored the personality and psychology of Taiwanese people and concluded that Taiwanese people are “greedy for money, fear of death, and love face ”. This is just one aspect of the Taiwanese character silhouette, and to be more precise, it is the product of the influence of Central Plains culture for more than 200 years. If observed over a long period of history, their folk customs also have a fierce and aggressive side. This is especially significant for the native indigenous groups in Taiwan. In addition to the alpine tribe , the local indigenous people in Taiwan also have the Pingpu tribe and several branches. Due to the island reasons, these ethnic groups have always developed very slowly, living in villages and communities, and are under the fishing, hunting and gathering economy. Although they have been in contact with the mainland for a long time, their level of progress in civilization is still relatively primitive.
Early Economy
Long before Zheng Chenggong logged on Taiwan Island , mainland China had records of ethnic minorities on Taiwan Island. For example, Chen Di's "Dongfan Ji" : "The Eastern Fan Yi people... have no chiefs, and there are many children. They are brave and happy to fight." According to the "Records of the Taiwan Island" by Mr. Cai Zhengyuan , the "Records of the Taiwan Island" by Mr. Cai Zhengyuan :
" After the harvest season, the Karmalan people (ethnic minorities in Taiwan Island) will sail north to Tamsui and Guandu (Taiwanese place name) to set up an ambush, waiting for an opportunity to hunt down the Basai people and Chinese people in Jinbaolishe along the coast, seize property, and cut off the first-level sacrifice."
Indigenous peoples in Taiwan were still in the early stages of social development at the beginning, and many habits still retained barbaric customs. And this habit gradually became a fighting gene later. In such a society, people are more convinced of using force to resolve all disputes. Armed fights often occur between some tribes, which often cause bloodshed. Moreover, because of their closure, they are more repulsive to the outside world, so they always take the initiative to attack outsiders.
Alpine warrior
After Zheng Chenggong landed in Taiwan, he had had fierce conflicts with the indigenous people. At that time, Zheng Chenggong had to face the Dutch people entrenched in Taiwan, but also had to deal with local indigenous people. According to the "Relanzha City Log":
" On June 3, 1661, Zheng Chenggong sent troops to Taichung reclamation, misconception that Dadu Society indigenous people. He pretended to receive the Zheng army, and informed the Dutch captured by the Zheng army to be an internal agent late at night, and launched a raid late at night. Zheng army was defeated and 1,500 people died."
In September of that year, Yang Zuo Pioneer Town was almost massacred by local residents in the north. In January 1662, because two elders of Langjiao were killed, the local indigenous people massacred the local Chinese. Countless bloody numbers record the fierceness of Taiwanese residents back then. The harsh folk customs of should not be underestimated by . Zheng Chenggong also spent a lot of effort to scare the indigenous people. It was precisely because of this background that Zheng Jing and his successor to the throne strongly suppressed the indigenous people to prevent chaos. At the same time, Zheng Jing also began to absorb mainland immigrants, transplant Central Plains culture, and change the atmosphere on Taiwan. However, because Zheng's existence lasted for a short time, the effect was limited.
Zheng Chenggong accepted Taiwan
Kangxi , and the unrest of Taiwan
In 1683, Kangxi sent general Shi Lang to conquer Taiwan and incorporate Taiwan into the administrative system. At the same time, a large wave of immigration was launched. Shi Lang also migrated Taiwan's original Zheng army back to Fujian, which caused blood-changing population migration. And this caused some turmoil due to the unreasonable system. Among them, there were frequent conflicts due to disputes such as water sources and territories, and later there was a clear rebellion. In 1699, the local local officials led the local residents to rebel because of exploitation. The Qing government united several nearby tribes to finally subdue it, but it also suffered heavy losses. The conflict between the locals in Taiwan and the foreign population is becoming more and more obvious. According to Mr. Cai Zhengyuan's "Records of the Taiwan Island" records: "In 51729, the Hakka of Guangdong, Jian Yue, led his clan to Taipei to reclaim his clan and was attacked by the indigenous people. The whole clan, regardless of gender, age, and young, was brutally massacred, and no one lived. "This can also show that the cruelty of the indigenous people in Taiwan has not changed after fifty years of baptism. What's more, and they have formed a stereotyped impression of outsiders , and it is precisely because of this that many vague tragedies have occurred.
Qing unified Taiwan
After Kangxi, small stocks in the local area were still very frequent. The reason is that the deep-rooted people are alienated . Although the Lin Shuangwen Uprising during the Qianlong period was dominated by Fujianese who moved to Taiwan, and the anti-Qing Dynasty and restoring the Ming Dynasty was the banner, it could also reflect the complex ethnic conflicts and people's estrangements in Taiwan. seems to be infighting in Taiwan has become a norm and has strong infectiousness. When time came to 1871, Ryukyu fishermen drifted to Taiwan Island when they encountered wind and waves, and a total of 66 people survived and landed. But it is because of unfamiliar with local social customs that the misunderstandings among local indigenous peoples have been caused. The final result was that the local Mudan Society people brutally massacred more than 50 Ryukyu fishermen and directly gave Japan a statement, which led to the "Mudan Society incident" in which Japan brazenly sent troops to attack Taiwan in 1874. This incident was also the beginning of Japan's coveting Taiwan Island. It can be seen that after hundreds of years of development, the local tough folk customs have not changed completely.
What kind of thinking can the obscure Taiwan history bring to us?
Due to the influence of geographical factors, it is very normal to generate centrifugal forces and isolationism within the island. However, the situation in Taiwan seems to be particularly serious, both Zheng Chenggong and the Qing Dynasty ruled on the turbulent Taiwan island. The tough, aggressive and perverted shown by some people in Taiwan is actually not inconsistent with the personality of "greed for money, fear of death, and love face" proposed by the Japanese later. Because of their greed for money, they regard all outsiders as "wealth plunderers", and thus continue to fight. He used any means to make money, thus creating a tough character. Because they are afraid of death, they hope to "let others die." Because of vanity and face, I hope to gain political benefits through struggle and chaos. It can be said that these two levels are in the same way as each other, and the real variable lies in the strength of the ruler. If the power of the central government in is strong enough in Taiwan, then Taiwanese people are "greedy for money, fear of death, and love face". And if the dominance is slightly weakened, their fierce and aggressive behavior will be revealed. Just as in the "March 28 Incident" in 1947, it was precisely because there was no strong military pressure at the beginning that the people of the province held Japanese samurai swords and massacred people from other provinces. We also need to be vigilant and change our usual attitude towards "Xiao Que Xing " towards Taiwan.
Taiwan chaos
In fact, in recent years, news about Taiwanese people fighting are endless. The always solemn legislative hall often becomes a martial arts field, performing "full martial arts ". The activists in the Green Camp were even more crazy. In 2014, they attacked the Legislative Yuan and disrupted the order of the entire society. And these may become problems we will face in the future, and we should be prepared for this. Taiwan is our sacred territory, and it is the responsibility of our generation to regain and transform Taiwan. Let's wait and see how the situation will develop in the future.
