Jiwei.com News, according to Taiwan media "Electronic Times", sources said that as the order-cutting effect of IC design manufacturers' customers begins to be released, it is expected that TSMC's wafer foundry capacity utilization rate will show a downward trend in the next 6 months, but TSMC's 5nm and 28nm process nodes' foundry businesses will not be affected.

market forecast that the capacity utilization rate of TSMC's 7nm process will drop sharply from nearly 100% this year to around 70%. Sources said that the average capacity utilization rate of TSMC 7nm and other mature processes is estimated to drop to 90% in the fourth quarter of 2022 and further decline in Q1 next year.

For TSMC, major chip foundry customers such as Intel , AMD , Nvidia, MediaTek and Qualcomm have all shrunk market prospects, and the production cut effect may begin to appear in the fourth quarter. Sources said that 7nm technology and mature processes with non-28nm will see a significant decline in capacity utilization in the first quarter of next year.

Sources said that TSMC still expects to maintain stable revenue performance in Q4. Based on the volume of foundry orders for Apple's iPhone and MacBook chips, the rise in TSMC's foundry prices, and the still strong US dollar, TSMC will not change its revenue expectations.

It is reported that TSMC has slowed down the capacity expansion of the 3nm production line of the Taiwan Southern Science and Technology Park factory, as well as the research and development of the 2nm plant in the Hsinchu Science and Technology Park factory. TSMC has also begun to reduce equipment procurement and make slowing plans. TSMC is scheduled to hold a legal meeting on October 13, and it remains to be seen whether TSMC will lower its capital expenditure or slow down its production expansion plan.
