At Zhang Zhenfu's home, the first thing that caught the reporter's eye was a 10-meter-long flagpole, and the fluttering national flag was particularly bright against the blue sky. "I made this flagpole myself. Although it is a homemade flagpole, it must be kept straight and upright, so I have spent a lot of effort. The bottom is made of bamboo , which is 9 meters long. I have painted 3 layers of paint and wrapped 2 layers of oil cloth for reinforcement protection. There is also a section above which is a 1-meter-long stainless steel pipe. This flagpole was specially made by me to welcome the National Day." The enthusiastic Zhang Zhenfu introduced.
Zhang Zhenfu, 71 years old this year, joined the army in December 1972, retired in March 1977, and is a glorious retired soldier with 48 years of party membership. Because he has a deep respect for the country and the army, he has always had a dream after retirement - to raise the national flag at his doorstep to thank the party for his kindness.
"Raising the national flag is to remember the revolutionary martyrs, love for the people, and respect for the country. 2019 is the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. At 6 a.m. on the day of National Day, I raised the flag on time on the roof to wish the great motherland prosperity. Later, I insisted on doing this every National Day." Zhang Zhenfu told reporters.

I strictly abide by the National Flag Law regulations. Once the red flag is found to have faded or damaged, I need to replace it with a new one immediately." In May 2021, he set up the "House of Veterans" on the second floor of his home. "We all have dual identities and responsibilities are also dual. I often lead everyone to visit and study at National Defense Education Base and Red Education Base, and organize theoretical study regularly.
