Zhao Zhixun, vice chairman of the Cross-Strait Public Affairs Association, said in an interview that the negotiations on vaccine recognition between China and the United States and China and Europe are almost at a loss. If the United States and Europe recognize vaccines made in mainland China, and the WHO recognizes that vaccines produced in mainland China will become one of the mainstream vaccines in the world. The vaccine issue will be an opportunity for cross-strait ice melting. As long as Taiwanese people who are vaccinated from mainland China have antibodies, they will reduce the number of days of quarantine and isolation, which is essentially goodwill for cross-strait relations.
Zhao Zhixun
Zhao Zhixun, born in 1980, served as assistant to Huang Zhaoshun, former member of the Kuomintang’s legislator, and assistant to Qiu Fusheng . He is currently the chairman of Zhengfu (Tianjin) International Co., Ltd., vice chairman of the Cross-Strait Public Affairs Association and chief representative of mainland affairs, and representative of the Kuomintang’s Taiwanese businessmen’s party. He has assisted in the promotion of Guoguang influenza vaccine in the mainland market and learned about vaccine-related information.
According to China Review Network, Zhao Zhixun said that China, the United States and China and Europe have negotiated the mutual recognition of vaccines, and basically the results of the negotiations should be similar. He speculated that the international vaccine mutual recognition time point should fall in May, and the vaccine passport policies of several countries are in progress. This means that mainland Chinese vaccines will become one of the mainstream vaccines in the world. If the DPP really wants to ease cross-strait relations, it is useless to just talk about "spring is warm and flowers blooming" and "constructive ambiguity". The best way is to start with the issue of vaccines. Joint prevention of the epidemic is the goal of the whole world. This is also humane and can transcend political nature.
Zhao Zhixun believes that vaccines are an opportunity for the ice melting between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait. It depends on how the leaders on both sides of the Taiwan Strait do it. If they do it well, they can have specific goodwill, rather than superficial verbal kindness. Taiwan's "Minister of Health and Welfare" Chen Shizhong recently said in an interview that "When the vaccine coverage rate of Taiwanese people is insufficient, incoming people hold overseas COVID-19 vaccine certificates, which can be applied for a shortened 7-day home quarantine, including mainland Chinese vaccines." This is a windfall, and as long as Taiwan recognizes the effectiveness of vaccines produced in mainland China, it is enough.
Zhao Zhixun said that according to Taiwan's regulations, vaccines cannot be purchased from mainland China, but as long as "the effectiveness of Taiwanese businessmen in the mainland for the efficacy of domestic vaccines", after antibody testing is indeed available when entering the country, centralized isolation will be reduced to 7 days. This is a substantial goodwill and the first step to ease. In the future, follow the results of the Sino-US and China-Europe negotiations and push them over.
In response to the DPP authorities' "recognition" for the mainland vaccine for the first time, it has sparked various speculations on the island. Taiwan’s well-known current affairs commentator Lai Yueqian analyzed that more than one million Taiwanese people live in the mainland for many years. If they all get vaccinated in the mainland, will they admit them when they return to Taiwan? In addition, mainland vaccines are highly recognized internationally, and Taiwanese people have also received these messages. What's more, Taiwanese people's willingness to get the AstraZeneca vaccine continues to be sluggish. Finally, under pressure, the DPP authorities began to quietly change their attitude.
Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, also pointed out that the possibility of normal exchanges between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait is because Taiwan unilaterally introduced some ban and restrictive measures on the grounds of the epidemic. These unscientific and unreasonable prohibitions and restrictions must be adjusted, and inhumane practices must be cancelled. (Edited by Xue Yang)
