(People's Daily Health Client Zhao Mengmeng) US White House President's Doctor Kevin O'Connor said on July 30 that President Biden tested positive for the new coronavirus that day.
Then, Biden posted on social media, saying, "Guys, today my COVID-19 test result was positive again. This will only happen to a few people. I have no symptoms, but for the safety of people around me, I need to isolate it. I am still working and will start over soon."

Biden was first diagnosed with the new coronavirus on July 21, showing symptoms such as runny nose, sore throat, fatigue, etc. During the quarantine period, he continued to take the antiviral oral drug Nematvir/ritonavir combination to treat COVID-19 infection. On the 27th, Biden tested negative for the new coronavirus and then ended his quarantine.
So, after Biden recovered, the new coronavirus test result was positive again 3 days after he recovered. Is it "re-positive" or re-infection?
Keywordsman, professor of the School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Hong Kong and virology expert, said in an interview with the Health Times, "Biden's test result is positive, which is 're-positive' rather than re-infection."
Keywordsman further analyzed, "On the one hand, the new coronavirus may have temporarily improved under the suppression of oral medication. The virus in the body has not been completely eliminated, but is only suppressed by the drug. After the drug is stopped, the virus grew again and turned positive. On the other hand, the oral medication of the new coronavirus is more effective for people who have not received the new coronavirus vaccine or have not been infected in the past. Biden had received 4 doses of vaccine before, so the effect is not that significant."
O'Connor also confirmed this view, saying that a small number of new coronavirus patients taking the nematode/ritonavir combination had a positive re-test.
Jin Dongyan emphasized, "This situation is 'renewal', which may be related to the short course of treatment originally designed by the drug, and the 5-day period may not be enough. Generally, taking another course of medicine can basically completely remove the virus, and there is no need to worry too much."
