According to Le Parisien, the French National Drug Safety Administration received a new potential adverse reaction report on Pfizer and Moderna new crown vaccine , and analyzed in detail the "very rare" cases of hearing loss after vaccination with these two messenger ribonucleic acid vaccines, reporting this "potential signal". The report said that the causal relationship between the vaccine and hearing loss cases has not been determined at present, but "cannot be ruled out in some cases."
It is reported that the French National Drug Safety Administration recorded 251 related cases, of which 191 were Pfizer vaccinated and 60 were Moderna vaccinated. The agency studied 144 cases, of which 115 were Pfizer vaccinated and 29 were Moderna vaccinated. In the past year and a half, the two vaccines have been injected in France for nearly 130 million doses.
Among the 115 cases vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine and have a record of hearing loss, two-thirds of them were between the ages of 30 and 65, and 87 cases reported hearing loss within 21 days after vaccination with the Pfizer vaccine. More than half of the cases were "mild" or "first-level moderate", which means that the condition is not serious. But a total of 10 cases suffered from "total deafness", that is, complete loss of hearing. report pointed out that the incidence of hearing loss cases shows that this situation is very rare after vaccination, so this new "potential signal" will not affect the balance of benefits and risks of vaccination. However, given that 73% of cases develop within 21 days after vaccination and the patient has no previous history of hearing, otology and cardiovascular disease, this means that the role of the vaccine in causing hearing loss cannot be ruled out, the researchers will determine or rule out this possibility through further analysis.
