IT Home September 25th news, new products such as Apple iPhone 14 / Pro series (except iPhone 14 Plus), Apple Watch Series 8, Apple Watch Ultra, Apple Watch SE 2, AirPods Pro 2 headphones have been launched.
Earlier this month, Apple quietly made some changes to the AppleCare+ plan, extending the warranty period for Apple products and increasing coverage for accidental damage. While AppleCare+ used to offer accidental damage twice a year, Apple now says repairs are “unlimited.”
Recently, Apple began sending emails to AppleCare+ customers to remind them of this change.
This email from Apple again emphasizes that devices covered by the AppleCare+ program can now repair accidental damage unlimited times, rather than just supporting twice every 12 months. Of course, this is only supported when the subscription plan is valid.
Apple also said that the additional protection is “no extra charge” and customers can gain unlimited protection for accidental damage without doing anything.
"Now, your AppleCare+ plan protects the covered device from unlimited accidental damage events during the period of the program's effectiveness (rather than twice every 12 months). Each event is subject to an applicable service fee. There is no additional fee for this additional protection, and users do nothing."
However, it is not clear whether Apple takes "unlimited repairs" seriously, or whether the company has actual restrictions on preventing abuse.
IT Home learned that the price of AppleCare+ varies from device to device, and customers can choose to pay monthly or full price. For iPhone 14, AppleCare+ charges $9.99 per month or full price $199. It is worth noting that even if you subscribe to AppleCare+, you still need to pay Apple a service fee if your device needs repair.
Apple's official website stated, "Every iPhone can enjoy a 1-year hardware warranty service and up to 90 days of free phone support within a limited warranty period. The AppleCare+ service plan for iPhone can extend your service guarantee period and also provides an unlimited number of accidental damage warranty services, with a corresponding service fee each time: RMB 188 is charged for damage to the screen or glass back panel; RMB 628 is charged for other accidental damages."
Apple also has a more expensive AppleCare+ plan covering theft and loss. While this program has also been upgraded to unlimited repairs, it still only covers up to two thefts or loss incidents per year.
