According to foreign media reports, the European Commission of the European Union (EU) determined on the 21st that nine companies including Nippon Chemi-con violated the EU Competition Law (Japan's Exclusive Prohibition Law) and monopolized the price of aluminum electrolytic capacitors/tantal electrolytic capacitors that are widely used for smartphones, home appliances, auto parts, etc. Although Sanyo Electric and its parent company Panasonic Electric (Panasonic) participated in it, they were exempted from fines for surrendering the monopoly case. Therefore, a total of about 254 million euros (about 1.98 billion yuan) was fined to eight of the companies.

In addition to Sanyo Electric and its parent company Panasonic , the companies that are recognized as monopolizing the price of capacitors are Hitachi Chemical, Rubycon, Elna, NEC Tokin, Vishay Polytech, Matsuo, Nichicon, and Nippon Chemi-Con . Among them, Jiamei was fined 97.9 million euros (about 764 million yuan), with the highest fine, followed by Nichicon fined 72.9 million euros (about 569 million yuan), and was fined about 18 million euros (about 140 million yuan).
The European Executive Committee found that between 1998 and 2012, these companies planned to manipulate the capacitor market and exchange commercially sensitive resources, including future prices, pricing targets and supply and demand information, and they also signed secret pricing agreements. Although the participating operators are Japanese companies and most of the consultation meetings are held in Japan, monopoly behavior operates globally.
According to Yahoo Finance data, as of 8:24 am on the 22nd, Kamei fell 2.18%, Nichicon fell 1.08%; as of 8:23, ELNA fell 0.81%, Matsuo Motor fell 0.30%; as of 8:25, Hitachi fell 0.29%. It is not the first time that capacitor factories such as Jiamei and others have been fined. In March 2016, the Japan Fair Trading Commission issued a press release announcing that it had imposed fines on five Japanese aluminum electrolytic capacitors/tantalum electrolytic capacitor factories such as Nippon Chemi-con, with a total fine of 6.697.96 million yen.
Among them, Jiamei's fine was about 1.435 billion yen, Nichicon about 3.64 billion yen, Rubycon about 1.067 billion yen, Matsuo Electric about 427 million yen, and NEC Group's NEC Tokin about 127 million yen.
Japan Fair Trading Commission pointed out that the above-mentioned capacitor manufacturers held talks in the name of a research association or individually during 2010-2011 to negotiate product selling prices and jointly decide on the increase. During the 2008 Lehman Storm and the 2011 311 earthquake, due to the decrease in sales, the above-mentioned capacitor factories carried out price manipulation and joint monopoly to ensure profits.
Technology companies should have surpassed their competitors through product innovation, but these companies should be punished if they choose to collude prices and finally let consumers pay for the order.
