Hello everyone! I am Taisho!
has been writing articles and Q&A related to the international field for several years, and I have received many questions from my friends in the background. One question asked this question - "Why should the map of Vietnam use Laos and Cambodia is included? ”
that the question was very popular at that time and was edited into a question-and-answer topic. I will answer it on this topic.
At that time, I said that the Vietnam map included the territory of Laos and Cambodia. This was an illusion. Whether from the world geographical map or the Southeast Asia map that divided the regions, Laos and Cambodia are independent sovereign countries and will not be Vietnam blatantly placed it into its own territory.
The reason why Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos are stuck together is caused by a special historical environment. Indeed, Vietnamese people decades ago thought so, and integrate these three countries into Together, the Indochina Federation was formed, but in the end, the strength was not enough and he could only "sigh".
In general, I don’t believe it too much about the Vietnam map including Laos and Cambodia. I think it is likely to be a rumor made up on the Internet based on the status of Vietnam’s history.
However, it must be said that, recently I saw a circulating picture on major online platforms, which completely corrected my original misunderstanding. Oh, Vietnam’s regular map does include two sovereign countries, Cambodia and Laos. It turns out that Vietnam has never given up on the Indochina Federation!
Look at the picture. This is obviously a picture of the internal meeting of Vietnam. On the wall next to the Vietnamese flag, there is a map of Vietnam. Although the picture is not very clear, the general outline can be seen very clearly.
The territory of Vietnam is divided into major administrative regions. The maps of Laos and Cambodia have obvious national boundaries, and there are no internal administrative regions.
I don’t know what Vietnam means? Is this not the Vietnamese think that Laos and Cambodia are the same as Vietnam’s internal provincial administrative regions, or something else?
Anyway, this picture seems to be very disgusting for both Cambodians and Laos. Vietnam is all telling these two countries that Vietnam will annex them sooner or later.
Why do Vietnam’s map do this? This requires deep digging into the history of Vietnam.
Only by clarifying the historical context of Vietnam's national development can we know why Vietnam has such great ambitions today? Where did his ambition and confidence come from?
Vietnam was a vassal state of the Central Plains dynasty for a long time in ancient times. Even before , the majority of Vietnam's territory was under the jurisdiction of our country. This place in Vietnam is called "Jiaozhi". The Qin army went south to conquer the Baiyue region, and by the way, it took this area into its pocket and officially became a territory under the rule of the Central Plains dynasty. Han Dynasty was set up here. Jiaozhi County.
Of course, it can be explained that the Vietnam region ruled by the Central Plains dynasty mainly refers to the northern part of Vietnam today, not the entire territory of Vietnam. After quelling the rebellion of the Second Zheng sisters in the Jiaozhi area, Ma Yuan, General Fubo of the Eastern Han Dynasty, set up a copper pillar in the southernmost part of Jiaozhi County, calling it the ultimate boundary of the Han Dynasty, which means that this is the southernmost part of the Han Dynasty.
From the Song Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty , Vietnam became a vassal state of the Central Plains dynasty for thousands of years. However, in the late Qing Dynasty, the Qing Dynasty, the vassal state, was weak, and it was increasingly difficult for Vietnam to stop the infiltration of French colonists.
So in 1885, the Qing Dynasty, as the suzerain country, fought a battle with the French colonists, which is the famous Sino-French War . Anyone who has studied this history knows that the Qing Dynasty was not defeated in the Sino-French War, but the Qing government was corrupt and incompetent. If it wanted to end the war as soon as possible, it eventually gave up its sovereignty over Vietnam, which led to the war being very fierce. Crazy, winning on the battlefield, but not gaining any benefits on the negotiating table.
So it is interesting to evaluate this war, saying that it is "France won if it cannot win, and China won if it cannot win."
So, the Qing government watched Vietnam become a French colony. Then, based on Vietnam, France incorporated Laos and Cambodia into France's Southeast Asian colonial system through various means of aggression.
Therefore, with Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos as the combination of the colonies, it became the largest colony of France in Asia - French Indochina, also known as the Indochina Federation. France implemented federal governance in this region.
After the end of World War II, the strength of old colonial empires such as Britain and France was greatly weakened. After France restored its country with the help of British and American forces, the colonial forces made a comeback again. He was unwilling to give up this large colony in Southeast Asia.
But at this time, the Vietnamese Communist regime was established in northern Vietnam, and was invaded again by French colonists and resolutely resisted for nine years. In 1954, France was forced to withdraw from Vietnam, and this mess was just ranked first in the world. The United States is the takeover.
And the Americans are not very good. Although they supported the Wu Tingyan regime in South Vietnam, they were involved in a 20-year war in Vietnam. Vietnam War was a big defeat for the United States, and they almost defeated the United States. His position as the overlord of the world was dismounted. In 1975, the United States was forced to withdraw from the war quagmire of Vietnam, and Vietnam also achieved reunification of the north and the south.
Alas! Since then, the Vietnamese have been different. They won the Vietnam War and defeated the world's No. 1 power. They have lost their ambitions and have continued to expand. They claim that they are the third military power in the world, second only to the two superpowers of the United States and the Soviet Union.
Vietnamese even have the same idea as Indians, considering themselves to be the heirs of the French Indochina Federation and should inherit all the rights and interests of France in Indochina Peninsula , and should include Laos and Cambodia in their territory , thus becoming the overlord of the Indochina Peninsula and the strongest country in Southeast Asia.
Of course, Vietnam's dream is a bit big. While expanding its ambition, it also forgot that there is a powerful country in the north, and it was once its sect leader. But what the Vietnamese are brave enough is that with the support of other major powers, they constantly provoke his former sect leader.
As a result, in the late 1970s, he was beaten up by the sect leader and brought Vietnam back to its original form. He also woke up halfway through his dream of a great country. Speaking of which, Vietnam is really the same problem as India, and even the historical trajectory is very similar.
From this point of view, Vietnam really has a special tortuous history. It was colonized by French colonists once, but its ambitions became even greater. As I said just now, Vietnam was beaten up by his former suzerain country, and half of the dream of a great country was awakened, while the other half was still dreaming and did not completely give up the goal of establishing the Indo-Spring Federation.
So whenever they have a meeting, the maps hanging on the wall are not just the version of their own country, but also Laos and Cambodia.
What do you think about Vietnam’s dream of a great country? Welcome to leave a message in the comment section below.
