The Sanyuan City God Temple is dedicated to Li Jing, a famous general from Sanyuan in the Tang Dynasty. It was built in the eighth year of Hongwu (1375) in the Ming Dynasty. It has a history of more than 600 years. It is large in scale and has a magnificent architecture. It is second to none among the City God temples in the country.

The City God is the god who protects the city in ancient mythology. He was later believed in by Taoism. From the Three Kingdoms to the end of the Qing Dynasty, temples were built for worship.

The ancient architectural complex of the City God Temple is arranged in a balanced and symmetrical orthodox manner with more than 40 individual buildings such as buildings, halls, corridors and pavilions arranged on the vertical and horizontal axes in order of priority.

All the buildings have glazed roofs, carved beams and painted pillars, rigorous structure, solemn and spectacular, and have the reputation of "expending the work of civil engineering and the ingenuity of shape".

A 12-meter-high Xieshan archway was built in front of the main entrance of the City God's Temple. On the forehead of the archway was written "Weiling Zhaoying Temple". On the archway, there were wood carvings such as "Dragon Playing with Pearls", "Phoenix Returning to its Nest", "Lion Rolling Hydrangea" and other auspicious patterns. , broad and powerful.

To the north of the archway is the mountain gate of the City God's Temple, which is 15 meters high. It is also called the "Bagua Suspended Beamless Gate" because it has no beams and purlins. It is named after the Eight Diagrams symbols. There is a three-meter-wide bluestone road on the central axis of the gate that connects the north and south.

The east and west sides of the mountain gate are corridors of plaques, inlaid with stone carvings of "Before and After" written by Yue Fei. The calligraphy is elegant and the carvings are exquisite, so it is known as the "Three Unique Steles".

The third wooden archway to the north has the inscription "Zhi descends here", and the carvings below have allusions such as "King Yao visits the wise", "Yue Fei rushes to take the exam", "Li Bai writes drunkenly" and other vivid images.

The second stone archway to the north has the words "Ming Ling Guarantee" engraved on the forehead and the word "surveillance" engraved on the vertical plate. The forehead arch is engraved with allusions such as "Eighteen Bachelors Climb Yingzhou" and "Three Visits to the Thatched Cottage". Elegant and uniquely carved.

The fourth wooden archway located in the middle courtyard is the largest one in the whole temple. It is engraved with "Ming Ling Mian Blessing". , "Nuwa mends the sky" and other allusions. There are 58 boys carved on the head, with various handsome shapes.

The second bell and drum floors on both sides of the central courtyard are both 14.5 meters high. They are triple-eaves cross-mountain-style buildings. The building is supported on twelve pillars with three-meter glazed "gaoming" on them, which is tall and eye-catching.

On the raised head are carved wooden dragons, phoenixes, lions, elephants, etc. The overall structure is solemn, the structure is rigorous, and the shape is elegant.

The City God's Hall is a group of main halls consisting of a worship hall and a dedication hall. It is 15 meters high overall and has a construction area of ​​more than 700 square meters. In the dedication hall, there is a 6-meter-high statue of the City God and the statues of the four heavenly kings. There are 20 statues on display in the worship hall. This painting reflects the ten halls of Yama and the eighteen levels of hell temples.

The entire main hall has a base height of 1.2 meters. On the east and west side are the Ming Dynasty imperial edicts and the paper-burning tower made of iron during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty.

The east and west side halls and the main hall architecture complement each other and are majestic.

At the end is the bedroom, covering an area of ​​697 square meters. It is composed of doors, pavilions, corridors, halls and buildings, and is sealed with thick walls, with carved walls and glazed roofs, making it unique.
