Among the 36 cabinet members, Prayuth served as prime minister and concurrently served as defense minister for the first time. Prawit, Somkid, Wissanu, Julin and Anutin served as deputy prime ministers. Among them, Julin and Anutin also served as ministers of commerce and health respectively. The cabinet members will perform their duties immediately after the cabinet list is presented to the king.

On March 24, 2019, Thailand held a national election to elect 2,500 members of the lower house of parliament. The 2,250 members of the upper house of parliament are selected by the National Committee for the Maintenance of Peace and Order led by Prayuth Chan-ocha. On June 5, members of the upper and lower houses of Congress voted together. Current Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha won an overwhelming majority and was elected as the new Prime Minister of Thailand.
