These two first-class universities have caused controversy over dormitory issues. The dormitories suddenly are not enough for people to live in. What's going on?
The first one is Xiangtan University . Xiangtan University is a well-known university in Hunan Province. It was once a national key university. In the second batch of double first-class selection, Xiangtan University became a new double first-class university, which can be said to be a great success. However, now, the school is deeply involved in the whirlpool of public opinion due to the dormitory issue.
It is reported that Xiangtan University recently required graduating seniors to change their dormitories from four to six to ten, which caused dissatisfaction among students. The response of a teacher from the school's Academic Affairs Office made the students even more angry. After receiving feedback from the students, this so-called teacher actually said:
"If you just think that the accommodation conditions of Hunan University are poor, you can ignore it." Come, you can also apply to drop out of school."
The teacher's reply was really full of bureaucracy and had no affection for the students. Netizens bluntly said that only after seeing the teacher's reply did they realize that there is a reason why Xiangtan University has not been able to develop.
The insufficient dormitories for Xiangtan University students are related to the school’s substantial enrollment expansion. For this year’s college entrance examination alone, the school has expanded enrollment by more than a thousand people. With such a large expansion of student enrollment, it is normal for the dormitories to be insufficient. However, the school's handling of dormitory issues is too simple and crude, without considering the feelings of current students at all, which is a bit unjustifiable.
The second one is Southwest Jiaotong University . Southwest Jiaotong University is one of the five orthodox Jiaotong University in my country. The other four are Xi'an Jiaotong University , Shanghai Jiaotong University , Beijing Jiaotong University, and Yangming Jiaotong University. The school is a well-known university in the southwest region, with science and engineering, transportation and other disciplines ranked first in the country.
Recently, it was revealed that Southwest Jiaotong University had insufficient dormitories for graduate students and implemented a first-come, first-served basis. Students who were late in applying had to rent their own housing off campus, which caused an uproar in public opinion. After the public opinion fermented, Southwest Jiaotong University adopted methods such as renting apartments and building new dormitories to meet the housing needs of graduate students.
The insufficient dormitories for graduate students at Southwest Jiaotong University are related to the expansion of the school’s graduate enrollment. As a university directly under the Ministry of Education, the school has the task of expanding the enrollment of graduate students, but it blindly expands enrollment without considering its own carrying capacity.
