Taiwan "nine-in-one" election ended, the DPP suffered its biggest defeat since its founding. The main reason for the failure is that the DPP failed to play the "anti-China and Taiwan" card. During the election, the DPP has always been keen to stimulate the tense atmosphere between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, causing panic and anxiety among the people on the island, and put on the sign of "anti-China and Taiwan protection" to deceive the support of the Taiwanese people. This year, the DPP's election situation is sluggish, so it has to inject a "heart-boosting agent" again at the last moment and quickly play the "anti-China and Taiwan protection" card. On the last day of the election, Tsai Ing-wen was still taking this as the core and calling on the people to support the DPP. The election results were released, and the DPP was slapped in the face.
Korean Party does the opposite. In the election campaign, the focus will be on highlighting the DPP’s handling of the disadvantages of cross-strait relations, focusing on the theme of peace and not war between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait. It even compiled a rumor that “Young people go to the battlefield if you vote for the DPP; if you vote for the KMT, there will be no battlefield between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait”, which directly hits the DPP’s weaknesses and accurately reflects the voices of the people on the island.
The DPP lost a crushing defeat in the election. Tsai Ing-wen resigned from the position of party chairman, but quickly appointed her confidant Chen Chi-mai as acting chairman, which played the role of checking and countering other factions within the DPP and adding insurance to the situation after losing power. After Tsai Ing-wen resigned, her quick promotion of her own people to occupy the position of party chairman will inevitably arouse dissatisfaction among those with more advanced party qualifications. Politicians such as Lai Ching-te who are aspiring to the next general election may choose to cut off from Tsai Ing-wen and gather a group of their own forces within the party. In this way, the possibility of the DPP facing division is greatly increased.
As the saying goes, "The wall falls and everyone pushes it, and the drum breaks and thousands of people beat it." Tsai Ing-wen's defeat in the election and the loss of power within the party proves that he made fatal mistakes in dealing with the most critical cross-strait relations. These Americans see it in their eyes. The United States only wants to use Taiwan to restrain mainland China and slow down the rise of mainland China. It does not want to cause war because the DPP authorities play "Taiwan independence" too much, and drag the United States into the water. Therefore, taking advantage of Tsai Ing-wen's election defeat, she changed her attitude and attacked the DPP authorities and urged them to adjust cross-strait policies.
Sun Xiaoya, director of the Office of the "American Association in Taiwan" who has close ties with the DPP, said that avoiding war is the common responsibility of all policy makers, stakeholders and foreign affairs officials, and everyone should do their best to avoid war. Some Taiwanese media interpreted that Sun Xiaoya rarely speaks for the Kuomintang, and to some extent, is sending a signal to the Democratic Progressive Party to remind her that the policy of "anti-China and Taiwan" should be adjusted.
With the "support" of Americans, the Kuomintang does not need to save face for the DPP. Major members, including Kuomintang Chairman Zhu Lilun, have come out to accuse the DPP of cross-strait policies. Zhu Lilun said that the Kuomintang adheres to the "2D strategy", takes into account both defense and dialogue, and strives to avoid conflicts and wars through dialogue. At the same time, he thanked Sun Xiaoya for supporting the Kuomintang's position and called on the Taiwanese people to follow the Kuomintang on the right path. Former Kuomintang Chairman Ma Ying-jeou criticized the DPP for saying that he was obsessed with the "anti-China and safeguarding Taiwan" line. The DPP ignored Taiwan's security and the welfare of the Taiwanese people, and did not realize the international community's ardent expectations for peace.
Democratic Progressive Party veteran Lu Xiulien is also dissatisfied with the cross-strait policies of Tsai Ing-wen and the Democratic Progressive Party, saying that his party discipline collapsed, his party morality was declining, his arrogance and disability was trapped in Taiwan on the brink of war. When dealing with cross-strait relations, he kept "relying on the United States to resist China", regardless of the welfare of the Taiwanese people, did not listen to the voices of the people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, and he fell to the loss of the people's hearts, and almost led the situation in the Taiwan Strait to an out-of-control situation.
DPP tycoons who promote "Taiwan independence" ultimately did not have a good ending. Lee Teng-hui and Chen Shui-bian are the lessons learned from the past. After Tsai Ing-wen lost her county and city elections, she is likely to inspire the DPP to take a more radical line. It is almost impossible to expect her to wake up. She will not have a good ending, either abandoned by the Taiwanese people or undergo a trial of history after unification.
