Use the time difference to buy lottery tickets, what?
According to reports, an Australian man bet on the website, winning a lottery ticket worth US$70.4 million (about RMB 471.68 million), but lost this huge sum that could change his life due to the time difference between the United States and Australia. Mr. G placed a bet at 11:27 am local time in western Australia and bought a lottery ticket from the American Lotto Company. At 12 o'clock, the winning number was the same as the number purchased by Mr. G, which surprised him very much.
But unfortunately, he did not receive this bonus in the end. Lotto said that Mr. G used the time difference between the United States and Australia to buy lottery tickets. Australia's lottery time was far after the official US lottery time. Therefore, the lottery number purchased by Mr. G was automatically transferred to the next issue.
After Lotto refused to pay the bonus, Mr. G filed a lawsuit against the bookmaker. In an interview with the Northern Regional Horse Racing Committee, Mr.
G said he did not know the exact deadline for the lottery, but his partner Mr. T knew it.
Mr. T knew at the time that the lottery they bought had exceeded the deadline, but they still bought the lottery, and Mr. T was very surprised.
Lotto explained to the committee in court that time zone differences are irrelevant because Lotto's terms clearly state that any bets made after the official draw will not be accepted by Lotto. As long as the lottery has been drawn, any betting information generated after this will be invalid.
Lotto said that when Mr. G bets that day, a window of may pop up on his computer to inform him that the previous bet had ended and his betting number had been moved to the next bet point.
As Lotto Company presented clear terms and regulations regarding the delay in betting, the Commission finally ruled that Mr. G's lottery was invalid.
