I did enter Poland and stay in Warsaw with full of sympathy. That night, I first heard Mr. Wei, who was in the same room, tell the story of a student from Warsaw University surveying and mapping the old city of Warsaw before the outbreak of World War II. I was very moved. The next day, I went to the old city of Warsaw to take a look. The Poles became a different look in my mind: tall, brave and strong! At this moment, I suddenly realized that sympathy is certainly a virtue of human beings, but most of the images of those who are sympathetic in the minds of sympathizers are weak: weak figure, cowardly personality, or: the tragic fate... For Warsaw in front of you, the word "sympathy" must be hidden first, and the Warsaw people in front of you - the Poles should be respect and admiration!
On this day, our party first went straight to Zamkyo Square in the old city. There was a statue holding a cross in the center of the square. It commemorates Zegmont III, the first advocate of moving the capital to Warsaw. On the other hand is the magnificent old palace. It was rebuilt and renovated in 1971. It is now open to the public as a museum. Soon, our party agreed to take the square as the center point, first east, then north, and finally west, and walked three rounds along the stone brick road. We visited many attractions such as the Holy Cross Church near the Old Palace, Chopin Park and the University of Warsaw, and saw castles, arrow towers, churches and many "western buildings". The more than an hour tour is tantamount to the tour of various European style buildings. As for the church alone, in addition to the Gothic, Baroque, and Renaissance that we are common in some Western European countries, there are also Orthodox styles! There is no hustle and bustle of cars, no dazzling magnificence, nor the monotony and dullness that the Su-family house in the Warsaw New District where I stayed. What I appreciate and enjoy is the elegant demeanor and profound connotation of the old city of Warsaw.

But when I return to the entrance of Warsaw Market Square and look at the two old photos displayed in the street bulletin board, my mood suddenly became very heavy. Because of the war, the squares of many European cities such as the Belgian Town Hall Square mentioned earlier may have been traumatized by war and the city buildings have been damaged, but to the extent of damage, they will never be as serious as the Warsaw Market Square. The old photos in the bulletin board tell me: In the strict sense, the Warsaw Market Square was a piece of ruins at that time!

Facing Hitler's invasion, the Poles did not resist as some people once guessed, so it led to Hitler's army's long journey in Poland. On the contrary, the Polish people resisted tenaciously from the beginning of the war. Their sacrifices in the early stages of the war far exceeded those of some other European countries, including some European powers with many times stronger economic and military power than Poland. Among them, the battle to defend the capital Warsaw was the most tragic. At that time, two armored divisions of Hitler's 10th Army rushed to the outskirts of Warsaw. Because there were no infantry to follow, they were resisted desperately by the Warsaw military and civilians, and their attack was temporarily blocked. At this moment, although General Kuttelzia, the commander of the Posen Corps, who knew that he had been surrounded by the German army, decided to attack the flanks of the German main force to the south, this heroic and courageous Polish counterattack, the so-called "Buzula River Battle", not only attracted the Eighth Army of the German Army, but also forced Hitler to recall a corps of the Fourth Army from the Northern War Zone in panic. Hitler was determined to take revenge on the Warsaw people, threatening to "eliminate Warsaw from the earth forever", and ordered the bombing of Warsaw's urban area. Warsaw instantly became a scorched earth, 90% of the buildings in the old urban area were destroyed, and 860,000 residents were killed!
The German army's crazy suppression of the Warsaw uprising in 1944 was also the traumatized by Warsaw. The Warsaw Uprising began on August 1, 1944. The Polish military and civilians fought alone for 65 days. About 18,000 soldiers and more than 250,000 Warsaw civilians died in the battle. On the day the war was extinguished, there were only 1,500 residents left in Warsaw, and there was almost nowhere to find houses for people to live in the city of Warsaw!
The first work faced by the Polish people in the liberation of Warsaw in May 1945 was the restoration and reconstruction of Warsaw. As early as 1938, when the people of Warsaw learned about the danger of the war, some college students majoring in the University of Warsaw put aside their normal courses, went from street to street to measure the urban buildings and streets of Warsaw, and drew renderings. The work was done very carefully. Before the war broke out, teachers and students hid these drawings and materials in an absolutely safe cave. Facing the broken walls in front of us, many people after the war thought so pessimistically: "Warsaw will not reappear in the world, at least there will be no hope for a hundred years."Therefore, many people suggested building new residential houses and office buildings on the ruins, while Soviet experts suggested building a Moscow Red Square in the center of Warsaw. But the Warsaw people insisted on restoring the old city of Warsaw as it was before the war. The old city drawings hidden in caves by teachers and students of Warsaw University further inspired the Warsaw people's determination and will to restore the old city. They went to the streets to attend rallies and march to express their wishes. When the opinions of the Warsaw people were approved by the Polish government, the Warsaw people searched for all the photos, pictures and pictures that reflected the appearance of Warsaw's old city that were kept at home, and displayed them one by one on both sides of the main streets of Warsaw for students of Warsaw University to draw construction drawings. Soon, the construction drawings and renderings of buildings and blocks were drawn, and the weight reached more than 500 tons! Soon, 300,000 Warsaw people who had moved abroad returned to Warsaw and rushed to invest in the restoration of the old city of Warsaw. They had money to donate money, did nothing, and engaged in voluntary labor regardless of compensation, and soon formed a patriotic craze that swept the whole country. With the arduous efforts of the Warsaw people, a total of more than 900 ancient Warsaw buildings in medieval style, including the palaces, castles, churches, schools, sculptures and buildings of various styles I saw in front of them, have reappeared in the world one after another. During the reconstruction process, the Warsaw people adhered to the principle of restoring the old as before, and all buildings must resolutely maintain their original appearance. Even the cracks that existed on a building before the war remained, resulting in the United Nations having to temporarily shelve the conventional practice of not issuing the "World Cultural Heritage List" certificate to Warsaw in 1980! Facing the new Warsaw, some experts sighed: "Except for the retro reconstruction of Warsaw due to its destruction by war, there are almost no successful cases of ancient city reconstruction in the world." The efforts of the Warsaw people in the reconstruction of the old city gave inspiration to other European countries that are also facing the restoration of the old city. The latter calls the patriotic enthusiasm shown by the Warsaw people in the reconstruction of the old city "Warsaw speed" and "Warsaw spirit"!
All of this, including the issuance of the United Nations "World Cultural Heritage List", is a great affirmation and praise given to all the efforts of millions of Warsaw citizens!
