Korean cable manufacturer LS Cable recently signed a $100 million submarine cable agreement with the Danish renewable energy giant Orsted Taiwan branch to provide the required cables for the latter's offshore wind farm that is being built in Taiwan.
Under the contract, LS cable will supply its submarine power cables to the Orsted Taiwan offshore wind farm in western Taiwan, Changhua County, , until 2022.
According to Taiwan’s renewable energy development plan, Taiwan will invest US$23 billion by 2025 to achieve renewable energy accounts for 20% of the province’s electricity.
According to the plan, nearly 10 wind farms are currently being built with a cumulative installed capacity of 5.5 GW, gradually increasing this proportion from the current 5%.
LS cable started its submarine cable business in 2009 and became a globally renowned brand with technical strength in just 10 years. With the steady growth of offshore wind farm demand in Europe and Asia, LS submarine power cable orders are also expected to grow steadily.
In addition to Taiwan offshore wind farm, LS Cable maintains close cooperative relations with Denmark Orsted on several projects, including the Hornsea project, the largest offshore wind farm at present.
