At 14:44 on September 18, a magnitude 6.9 earthquake occurred in Hualien County, Taiwan, with a depth of 10 kilometers. At 14:32, a magnitude 5.0 earthquake occurred in Taitung County, Taiwan, with a depth of 10 kilometers. According to data from China Earthquake Network , there were several earthquakes in Taitung from the night of the 17th to the afternoon of the 18th.
Mr. Lin, a resident of in Taitung County, told Jimu News that his family was sitting in the lobby on the first floor and ran out if there was an earthquake and did not dare to stay upstairs.
"The earthquake started on the 17th, and aftershocks continued." Mr. Lin, 21, said, " main earthquake was two or three o'clock this afternoon. When the main earthquake occurred, the motorcycles on the road fell down and the telephone poles were shaking. The neighbors all ran out, and some neighbors were crying. They had never seen such a big earthquake."
Mr. Lin told Jimu News reporters that a brick kiln factory and rice mill near his home collapsed, with heavy losses, and some houses collapsed.
"When the main earthquake occurred, my family and I were sitting in the living room on the first floor, and we didn't dare to stay on the second and third floors. All the doors and windows in the house were open, and we ran out when there was an earthquake." Mr. Lin said, "When we ran out, we saw many dogs outside and the telephone poles were shaking."

Items were scattered all over the floor

From some photos provided by Mr. Lin, after the earthquake, his house was messy, books, bottles and other items on the shelves were scattered all over the floor, and a large vase fell on the floor and lost the hole.
Due to the earthquake, nearby supermarkets are sorting out scattered items. In Mr. Lin's picture, a store selling electrical appliances is in a mess, with electric fans, TVs and other electrical appliances slumped on the floor.
Mr. Lin said that some roads near his home had bulges, some trees fell down, and the trains were shut down. Fortunately, there were no casualties among residents, no water and electricity cut off, so residents could live a normal life.

"When the earthquake occurred, many people who drove felt that the car was not easy to drive, thought it was a tire blowout, but after parking, they found that it was an earthquake, so they ran away quickly, so many cars were parked on the road." Mr. Lin said.
Mr. Lin said that his friends in Taitung are all safe and there is no problem with the house at home. The things at home fall all over the floor. Some friends' TVs at home fall on the floor and broke the TV. The main shock has passed, and now there are aftershocks from time to time.
