At 21:41 on September 17, a magnitude 6.5 earthquake occurred in Taitung County, Taiwan, with a depth of 10 kilometers. A reporter from Nandu learned from relevant departments in Taitung County, Taiwan that the earthquake caused power outages in some areas, and roads fell and landslides. There are no major disasters in Taitung at present. It is understood that as of about 10:00 on September 18, more than 20 people in Taitung County were injured in the earthquake, and most of them have returned home to recuperate.

Nandu reporter learned that at least 4 major aftershocks had occurred on the night of the earthquake. As of around 10:53 on September 18, the earthquake caused huge rocks to fall from the uphill section of , , , to Longtian, to close half of the roads; the entire village of Lidao Village, Haiduan Township, was powered out; the Wan'an brick kiln collapsed; the Xinwu to Haiduan section of Taiwan Line 20 collapsed, and the roads were blocked.
In addition, Luye Township Baohua Bridge has a history of 40 years and has many cracks on the walls affected by the earthquake, and is currently closed. Previously, Baohua Bridge was damaged due to earthquakes, and protective measures have been strengthened in the past few years.
It is understood that the earthquake has injured more than 20 people in Taitung County, and most of them have returned home to recuperate. Xinwu Tribe, Wulu Village and Lidao Village in Haiduan Village, Haiduan Township will stop working and classes from 12 noon on September 18.
