Shibaozhai is located in Shibao Town in Zhong County. It is located on a lonely cliff raised by the Yangtze River . It is 200 kilometers away from the center of Chongqing and is nearly 3 hours away. However, it still belongs to the boundary of Chongqing. Shibaozhai consists of village gate, village building, emperor hall , etc. The Emperor's Hall on the top of the cliff was built in of the Ming Dynasty. At that time, there was no village building. It was necessary to use iron ropes to climb to the Emperor's Hall. Because climbing was not easy, the village building was built in the early years of Qianlong, and wooden ladders replaced the iron ropes. The village building was originally 9 floors, with the meaning of "nine levels of heaven". It was built on the cliff, with flying eaves and raised, and it was a full wooden structure. It was used as a temple and worshipped by Guan Gong . In 1956, it added 3 floors, a total of 12 floors, 56 meters high. When you climb up to see the distance, the rolling Yangtze River cannot see the coming and going, and it is one with the heaven and earth. Over the years, countless pilgrims have attracted to worship and literati have climbed to the top to write poems. Shibaozhai has become the largest and most existing ancient wooden structure with the largest volume and the largest number of layers in my country, and is known as the wonder of architectural wonder.
The river surface where Shibaozhai is located looks not wide, is relatively narrow, and it turns out to be even narrower. Shibaozhai is not named after just a temple building, but a village. It is a village that people live by the river for hundreds of years, a ferry crossing from south to north. Due to the interception of the Three Gorges Dam of the Yangtze River and the water level is raised, all the villagers of the village migrated to the current Shibao New Town, while the old village was submerged under the river. The village building was spared due to its high terrain, but the water level rose after all. In order to prevent floods from invading the lower part of the ancient building, a half-moon-shaped flood control dam was built. In the 1990s, I took a boat down the river from Chongqing and went ashore from the gravel beach by the river. The villagers were bustling with me to sell souvenirs and snacks to tourists. We walked through the village and climbed the Shibaozhai Tower. Today, the ancient buildings of Shibaozhai have been renovated and still stand on the bank of the Yangtze River, leading the way like a lighthouse, but the newly renovated Shibaozhaizhai Tower has lost its sense of vicissitudes and no ancient charm, and is suspected to be an antique building in the park. How to repair ancient buildings as old as they are is a big problem.
